Hello all.

Here is a picture of my jet black paint. :scared :shocked

The car is 8 months old. This picture was taken after the first wash since applying acrylicwerks.

This either happened when they were removing the cosmoline at the VPC because the dealer didn't detail the car or I did it when trying to use a cyclo as well as a PC.

Anyway, what would you do to remove this? I'm willing to do whatever is necessary to keep my sanity.

Thanks!

Brad

WTF is all that wavy crap ???

The swirls can be dealt with pretty easily ...... but whats the wavy stuff ?

Looks like the ocean.

Maybe a coupla more piccies so we can get a better idea of what it looks like ?

I think the wavy looking stuff is the flash or the sun because it doesn't look like that in person. However, the swirls always say hello every time the sun is out. What would you use smoker?

Brad

Ugh. :(

Well, perhaps we should begin with products you have already and what machines (PC or rotary) you have available. That will help us give you a better idea of how to attack this. :up

Brad, you're still jumping around with this problem, I feel for you, it's terrible to see a new car looking like that.

Now, I just imagine you don't have any products, so, here's what I'd do with those you can get there:

If you have a PC, then you should/could use:

Megs Fine Cut Compound w/ cutting foam pad - as many times as needed;

Megs DACP w/ polishing pad - to remove haze left by the cleaning process;

Megs SMR or #9 w/ finishing pad - to produce a great final finishing.

And then seal or wax.

Work it for the time needed, and it'll be great!

I really don't have anything now. I cleaned everything out so that I can start fresh. Is there a way to cover this up? I don't want to remove too much clear. Should I be concerned about that?

Brad

Neither the Cyclo nor the PC should be able to generate circular marks, should they? I have not used a Cyclo, but it's an RO buffer right? Correct me if I am wrong, but that can only be rotary or hand generated, I think.

Brad, cleaning that mess wont take much of the clear form a 8 months old car. In fact, imagine you cover that just to show it again in a couple of months.

It's better to clean it and then keep it.

I tried Meg's ScratchX on an area and it looked the same afterwards. I guess the results from the PC with those products you listed jgv would be quite different than those with just scratchX if the swirls are severe like mine.

Brad

2wheelsx2 is right, I wouldn't blame those marks on the Cyclo, which IS just another form of RO. It IS quite different from the PC (especially under load), but MINE sure never did anything like that. Those swirls/scratches look awfully circular to me, too.

BradNC- I usually caution people about thinning their clearcoat, but this is another case where I think you should bite the bullet and do it. I myself would probably use the Cyclo, at least for the first part of it. Cutting pads (Cyclo cutting pads are available from TOL ) and FCRC or at least DACP, as jgv has suggested. Trying to fill something like that really won't be a long-term solution.

wow wow wow wow wow wow wow

That is the worst case of swirls on a panel i have ever seen.

Yesterday me & jason had some problems with removing swirls on a black car.

The pc will not cut it on that you will need a rotary.

1. Perfect it III compound - with rotary & white waffle pad

2. 3m SMR with rotary and black polishing pad

3. Vanilla Moose Glaze by PC or hand

4. S100

This should take care of the swirls as long as those suckers are not in the paint. Those are some nasty swirls

A PC won't do it? Guess I had better start looking at threads on rotarys. PCs scare me so I'll have to wear a diaper when I use the rotary. : )

Brad

I've used a PC to take out some pretty nasty marks, including uber-swirls, buffing marks from some loony with a rotary and a wool pad and fairly bad scratches.

You just have to be brave, use a cutting pad and something agressive like Diamond Cut.

Because a PC doesnt generate the heat that a rotary does, the abrasive actions of these products are stepped down quite a bit.

Hence I was asking if I moved up to rotary work, I would prolly have to rethink my abrasives usage.

I would certainly give it a go with a PC and some Diamond Cut, I've yet to cause any damage with that combination.

Did a maroon 2000 Intrepid with that today in fact.

Came out nice!

Here is what can be accomplished with a PC. Now mind you, this took almost two months of hard work (maybe 20 applications)and a lot of different products and pads, but the results are great!

The white spots are not noticable excpet in a photo shot to show them, even in bright direct sunlight. Also, the car was not wiped down before the photo.

Pads: Orange and White

Products: 3M, Meguires, and Clearkote.

Brad,

I'll be glad to come over with my PC and help you solve this problem. We can spell each other.

I just bought a quart of 3M PIII Machine Glaze. I also have a quart of #83 SFP, which I don't really need anymore. I also have a Yellow CMA pad that's never beern used.

Get some Meg's Compound Power Cleaner (M-8432) or Diamond Cut Compound (M-8532).

You can get this from a Carquest Auto Paint stroe in Raleigh on N. Market Dr. There's also a little custom shop a few doors down, AutoSport Gallery...Check them out.

Here's a map to N.Market Dr.

I had no idea you had issues like this. I'll be in Delaware for a few days, but I'm free after 6/11.

Id have to agree with NY....I like 3M for that one....However Id go polymer after the glaze....Go for a couple glaze sessions, maybe a day apart if you can keep the car out of the elements, then seal with your choice of available poly's...Just a thought

NY's method is great, mines just another approach....

Brad

You can do it. I know how you feel. After all of our winter ice storms, and having a local garage and service center wash my now 6 month old supercrew I noticed a lot of swirl marks. Over the past 6 or 7 weeks i've been working on eliminating them. My first attempts have been with 3m Fine Cut and SMR. I got a lot of them with those products. Since then I've recieved my Poorboy's Swirl Mark removers(all 3 grades) and just today I got both Menzerna Polishs from Autopia. Sorry I've not had a chance to try them yet due to all of rain here on the days i have the time.

And a note to Mmmph: WHat type of products does Autosport carry? I'm in Raleigh often and have been looking for a good source of products not available here in Siler City

Best of luck

Al
