?-Maintaining/Lubricating Rotary Polisher-?

This forum area is for discussing all aspects of machine polishing.

Oh good, because I have a maintainance question.

I'm suspicious that my Harbor Freight 11 amp rotary is developing a growl...or maybe I'm just looking for a little project. Either way, I'd like to know how to take the machine apart to lubricate it. I asked my dad and he said "It is probably lubricated with a lifetime lubricant"....I think he is probably right, but in my view, lubrication never hurts, and I read one story where one of these exact models failed because it didn't get sufficient lubrication from the factory.

So...

What should I take apart and lubricate (I'm thinking maybe just head gears and bearings at the right-angle part), and what kind of lubricant should I use (motor oil, gear oil, regular grease, white lithium grease, KY-Jelly)?

Thanks!

BTW, I love the power of the rotary...I used Hi-Temp Light Cut and a 6" flat cutting pad about a week ago on my dad's blue-metallic 1991 GMC truck, and when I was done (on the door that I did), it actually shined and had clear reflections! Who would have guesssed that could still happen, considering the paint is ~14 years old, and what I thought was cracking clearcoat! Looks like it might just be scratches...I can't wait till it gets a bit warmer to do some more rotary work!
