There is a Ford dealership around here (no names mentioned) that claims any car you purchase from them does not need to be waxed for life, Because it has a Simionz (sp) Lifetime Coating

Not only that but there is a Dodge Dealer again (no names) that claims you only have to apply there sealant once every 3 years.

How do dealers get away with this crap?

Who knows? some people dont know the facts, others are looking for an easy solution to taking care of their car and some just dont know any better

I agree with you, most just are just not sure..... But it suprises me in Northeast, Most people realize just how bad the winters are here. Oh well, It's a shame that they get away with this :(

All just a gimmick that less informed people buy into. My neighbor wanted me to detail his car, but that was after "he tried to have his car simonized" and if it didn't work he would call me. Well, no call yet so I guess to him it looks good?

To each their own.

Many of these lifetime finish deals are written with a requirement that the customer return to the dealer every 6 months or so for inspection and maintenance. (sometimes these 'deals' are sold for $500 and more). Even if the customer remembers to schedule and take it in (and most don't) they do a quick wash and wax and the customer leaves happy.

There are exceptions, but most vehicles are traded/sold every 3-5 years, so the lifetime of this deal is short and the dealer almost always wins selling a protection package he made money on either way it went. They often even offer interior protection plans as well where they do the same thing only with fabric guard and guarentee against fabric/carpet stains or they will clean and or replace the damaged upholstery or carpet.

Just another way to make a few bucks.

Yup, totally agree, what a rip-off.

This is absolutely true. Of course, 99.999% of the public is less informed.

And why shouldn't they be? Where is John Q. Public going to learn the truth?

We know about this stuff because we want to. We go searching, digging for info on finish care. The average citizen only comes across finish care "advice" by accident and that accident is usually the sleazebag car dealer who's pushing this garbage so he can triple his profit on a sale.

PC.

My dad got some kind of "sealer" on his truck. The deal was: Something like $200 (maybe more?) initial install, then you can come back and get it re-applied every year for like $30.

Well, after a year goes by he brought his truck back for the $30 application, and they say "ok, first we need to detail it" for a cost of around $80. My dad said he just wanted the sealer reapplied and the guy just keeps repeating "first we need to detail it". So, he left without the sealer but a little wiser I guess :)

So many scams out there.
