A friend of mine told me many years ago you can't buff plastic and I know why (can melt the plastic if too much heat) but today I was practising with the makita rotary using Top Gear Final Glaze and 3M Rub Compnd and Farecla G3 on the paint of a very neglected white toyota utility that I've been using for taking my gear to dad's office for detailing his cars
Doesn't matter what happens to this thing so I had a go
Black Plastic backing of side mirrors on 700rpm
Door handle at same speed
Painted front bumper and even the windscreen
The Cutting compounds worked great on the paint but the top gear did a magical job on the plastic and in some cases I only used a damp brush on the plastic and it came up amazing
Certainly I will not do this on a customers car but with this old banger it's no big deal. The paint is almost dark grey now it's so bad except for the two shiny white panels that I buffed today.
Side mirror backing came up wicked. It was scratched and dull but now is shiny and extra dark black.
I even had a go at buffing the wheels. These wheels are ultra scratched but where I could fit the pad into, the final glaze which is a wet look polish/glaze took them off like lightning. Strange
This is crazy I know but I do like to experiment and try something illogical. Will take some pics tomorrow.
Are you :shocked
