Did a couple more M's this weekend. I'll post some info on them later tonight. I just wanted to get the pics up using my desktop now. :)

EDIT:

M3 Process:

This guy contacted me about a month ago when he first got the car and I was finally able to see him Saturday. He knew next to nothing about detailing, but wanted his car perfect. When he had the clear bra installed they supposedly did a full car swirl removal for $160, but as you can see they did more harm than good. Their were holograms all over and the original swirls were not even removed. I tried many combos on this thing to get it to finish down clean. It seemed like EVERYTHING I tried was leaving way too much marring, which is very strange considering how many BMW's and m3's in particular I have done. Ultimately the only thing I found that could remove the micromarring was meg's #9 on a yellow sonus pad. Yes, it has some fillers, but I also did an IPA wipe down to ensure it was making progress, and it was. I also used ssr2.5 and some op/oc mix to remove deeper swirls.

Final Process

opti no rinse

Sonus clay

orange cutting + ssr2.5 or op/oc (pc spd 5-6)

Meg's #9 (pc spd 5)

four star upp

EDIT:

This one turned out to be a pain in the a$$. It had tons of swirls and holograms all over from the previous detailer! Once again, I struggled with product selection in getting a truely mar free finish. The hood was a nightmare and took me hours, literally. I tried everything including optimum hyper compound, oc, op, oc/op, 83, 80, ssr2.5, and meg's #9. I started out with opti compound on an orange lc pad and it wasnt enough so I stepped up to a yellow pad and removed the swirls but was left with too much marring. Tried out 2.5 on the yellow on another section and had less marring but after 2 passes swirls remained. I ultimately decided on optimum polish/compound mixed about 30/70 on a yellow pad. It had enough cut and finished down better than anything else. I then followed that up with opti polish straight on a white polishing pad. Removed most of the marring, but i still was not happy, so I applied megs #9 once again with a white pad. Removed a little bit more of the marring and filled the rest. i then appliead 4* upp and topped with souveran. Overall, I think I spent about 9 hours on this one :grrr

Interior saw leatherique, pb's natural look, and the vacuum. Engine cleaned using dilluted four star white lightning and topped with natural look.

Under the 1000w halogens the paint looked pretty damn good, but at 6 30 in the evening when I pulled the car out I saw one remaining hologram on the side :grrr I know I polished that section a lot too!!!! Times like these make me think a rotary or even cyclo might be nice :buffing:

SPark Notes:

Exterior:

opti polish (white pad pc 3-5)

Sorry for the horrible pics on this one. I left my d70 at home and was using a crappy digital point and shoot.

Both look excellent, really impressive swirl removal on the first one. :bow

Odd, isn't it? All these new and truly excellent polishes out there and sometimes you just have to go back to an *old* standard like Meguiars to get the results you want.

Awesome swirl removal. That M3 looks very wet.

So what did you end up using. The SSR or OC/OP?

Great detail!

I used ssr on most parts and oc/op on the rest. I am dead from this weekend so i cant remember where I used what.

cars looks great!

with the m3, how did you get the orange peel out of the paint? i use the same combination with my buddy's e46 m3 (interlagos) and it still had orange peel (much like all bmw's). was there any wet-sanding done to the car previously?

would it be my technique? what's yours?

sorry for all the questions... i'm just VERY impressed. :)
