M 105 usage

if i use 105 twice a year with a lc hydrotec tangerine pad am i taking away too much paint over time doing this.

i would follow up after this with 205 and grey finesse pad.

mongo- There are a lot of variable beyond the "using M105/tangerine"...pressure, number of passes, how aggressively that combo cuts your paint, how much clear you have, stuff like that.

That approach would've killed the clear on my Mazda MPV in no time, but it wouldn't be as severe on some other vehicles, maybe by a long shot.

But if I had to generalize, I'd say that you're doing a whole lot more polishing that I would want to do on a vehicle I planned to keep for a while. But hey, that's just my take on this, and I guess I'm kinda conservative about thinning the clear.

You could also argue that if you need to use a strong compound a couple of times a year, something is going wrong with the washing phase. I am of course ignoring all the other factors which could effect the need for a compound eg paint hardness/softness

Well, I didn't want to get into that ;) I climb onto that particular soapbox pretty much as it is!

ok then

i will use ultimate compound instead

Ultimate Compound is fairly aggressive also. You should try to post a picture of your paint in the sun, or under halogen lights so that we can see what it looks like. Anything labeled as a "compound" is designed to remove either wetsanding scratches or severe swirls.

Your paint may not need something like M105.

And no matter what you use to correct it, doing significant correction twice, or maybe even once, a year is gonna take off a lot of clearcoat.
