LSP -Here's one for Debate....

My wife's Black Tahoe has been idle for the past few weeks. School is out -so it's time to experiment!

Over the past 2-3 years synthetic products have invaded the market -both OTC and Boutique. I haven't been convinced that carnuba & synthetics can't live together , and have seen nothing on the boards to prove otherwise -except in 'long term durability' studies, which don't apply to me.

Here's what I was after in a nut shell:

-Sheeting action of a Sealer like UPP or Zaino. I don't like sealers that bead. They tend to sit on the paint and water spot in the sun. There are many sealers that last, look good, etc... but not many that sheet the paint when your vehicle is sitting still. This is important for me, since I park in an outdoors lot each day. I've tried many, and have found few that match Zaino or UPP.

-Slickness. Maybe the best part of a detail (for me) is the initial slickness that you get after your LSP. Everyone likes to 'glide' the MF over the paint and feel the 'ice'. Not many products maintain this characteristic -Zaino has been the best in my experience (nothing has been close after 3+ weeks).

-Carnuba look + Sealer Shine is to die for! Admit it!

My wife's Tahoe was starting to get light marring, so I decided to experiment a bit. My primary goal was to mask the marring with a carnuba, but on the other hand I wanted to maintain the characteristics of a sealer.

Here's what I've done over the past 3 weeks.

*** Disclaimer -I'm nuts, and spend at least 8-10 hours per week on our rides ***

-Z5Pro
-Souveran x 2 / Sonus QD
- Natty's Blue x 1
-2oz of Z8 + 5drops of zfx (x 2) -This bonded like GLUE.
-Z5Pro/zfx'd x 1.

I don't want to debate the durability of this combo, but I can tell you that on black paint, it has incredible shine and depth, and I've water tested the surface with the hose, bucket, and spritz, and it's sheeting again like my favorite sealers.

Amazing thoughts. A real out of the box kind of thinking. That is why I am a dirt head and you go to India. Keep us informed as time goes along. I am very interested in the ZFX'd Z8. Who would have thought of that...? Interesting...very interesting!

How well have things held up??? Pics???

This is a good one from the recent past. Glad that you brought it back to life.

Come on John......give us your thoughts!!

It has held like a champ (but I would not recommend this process to others, as results may vary). Carnuba has silicone/oil, and that's like mixing water & oil with Zaino.

I think the HEAVY concentrate of zfx forced the issue. BY NO MEANS would I recommend this process over the manufacturer directions (I was having some fun). That said, I've Z5Pro'd the Tahoe a few times since (using zfx), and I feel 99.9999% confident that I have a completely sealed Zaino surface, and I continue to 'layer' weekly. I say this because the surface doesn't attract dust, crud doesn't stick to the paint in rain, etc... My paint is still 90% defect free -which is a record for the Tahoe. Black paint is SOOO unforgiving. I'm going to P085RD or Z-PC the paint in a few weeks, and start 're-building' the layers for fall/winter protection. I go WAAAYYYY overboard. Based on the countless details that I've done using Z since early this year, a single coat of Zaino is all that is needed. Again, I do this because I enjoy it, not because I HAVE TO.

I have a few recent shots, but I'm not sure if it's 'legal' to post them. The paint looks.... well I'd like to post it up and let the pics to the talking.

I didn't mean that in a literal sense....

Read the updated rules. I'm holding off on any pic posts.

We have a whole forum where members can post pictures of their own vehicles. It's called "Show Off Your Ride". Check it out.

From what I understand Zaino will bond fine over most synthetics-after a washing or Z6 wipe-down
.

In my experience -I think you CAN get Zaino to bond to other products using zfx, but I suspect that the durability may suffer. I don't leave a LSP 'single application' on my paint long enough to judge. I did regain the characteristics of Zaino that I enjoy on our Tahoe, so my results were favorable (for me).

Like any other product: for best results, follow the directions.

I re-read my post this evening, and noted that I stated:
*** Disclaimer -I'm nuts, and spend at least 8-10 hours per week on our rides ***

A big part of the 8-10 hours per week was habit -ask my wife.

I was washing each vehicle every 3 days(minimum), breaking out the PC to 'spot polish' marring, stripping off tire/well dressing to re-do it over again, fussing around with road tar stuck to the paint, trim, etc, etc......

Since I've switched to the Zaino system, I've fallen into a weekly routine (on my cars). For the most part, this is what I do: (the Z5/Z8 step is overkill, but......)

-Z7 wash (pre rinse, foam gun, sheepskin mitts/wheel brush).
-Blow dry & apply Z5Pro/Z8 (mix) -everything. In the summer heat, I can remove Z5/Z8 from the surface as soon as I'm done with the application.
-Vac & quick dress the interior with Z16/Z10 mix, and clean the windows (if needed).
-Z16 the tires & use the same to wipe down the wells.
1 mist/trigger on an EO applicator, per tire. I use an old MF to wipe off tire residue, and wipe down the wells.

This has reduced my routine to under 2 hours per vehicle, per week. I would say that I average out to 90 minutes per vehicle. Unless it rains, I'm down to 1 wash per week. I used to go NUTS over obscene dust build up, etc... (i.e. a dirty looking surface), and just don't have that level of concern anymore.

I see no debate here, just looks like more Pimpin' to me:cool:

LOL. I love your Avatar Toni.:yay

I'm only sharing a process that I've tried & the results

--in this case with Zaino.

I'm not sure what 'Pimpin' means to you, but when I open my mail, I'm not getting any checks from detailing companies.
