Looks like Fedor is fighting Tim Sylvia in July!

what a joke honestly after sylvia's last couple fights if you could call them that. why would fedor(who is the best worldwide imo) lower himself to fight sylvia it doesn't make sense especially when you got couture practically kicking down the door for a fight with him. sylvia's size got him where he is today and his skill never caught up which is obvious over the last few fights. if anything this would be be warm-up for what we really want...fedor vs. cro-cop 2!:woot:

Tim Sylvia deserves a lot of credit for what he's done, but it'll still be just too much Fedor.

Sylvia is big ,awkward, hard to take down, and has good striking skills and for those reasons I never count him out. Unfortunately, he is one of the most boring fighter to watch as of late.

As for Fedor.

Who has he fought as of late?

Does he still possess the skills he had years ago?

Inactivity and age can prove to be a big factor in this one.

warm-up for what we really want...fedor vs. cro-cop 2!

Crocop looks highly unmotivated, and IMHO is not the same fighter he was a few years ago. He needs to prove himself against a top ten contender before I would throw him another big payday.

Is this Autopia or Sherdog ???

Glad to see an MMA thread !!!

Sherdog?

Search my screen name at MMA.tv... I have been a member there for 10 years...

Its a better fight then it seems because it will answer some questions.

Tim was doing good against Nog until the fight hit the ground.

How much has Fedor aged? He hasn't fought top competition in a long time (in his weight class).

Can Tim keep it standing? (Randy has been the only one to throw Tim around, Tim has a pretty good sprawl).

For some reason, I have never trusted Fedor's chin, and I think IF Tim connects early he could hurt Fedor and end the fight early. That is a big IF, but how many legends have we seen fall in the last year.

Realistically Fedor will get the fight to the ground and brutalize Tim, but I am not going to call it an easy fight for him by any means. Tim will come to fight.

You know I find it just so relaxing after a hard day and/or when I want to wind down to go to sleep to turn on the Fight Network. Feel the love!

I was a big Fedor fan when he was with Pride, but his inability (some blame Dana White) to keep himself active against top competition has knocked him down a few rungs in my book.

I believe that if he were concerned with his legacy a bit more he would have found a way to continue fighting top heavys not a 7' tall fighter with no experience and middleweights.

Pound for Pound, I have never seen anyone dominate in all facets of the game like Anderson Silva. I am a huge Hendo fan, and I could not believe the way in which Silva handled him and everyone else he has fought in the past 2 years.

Fedor was (may still be) great, but not as dominant overall like Silva.

Back to Silvia vs. Fedor. I wont be betting any $$$ on this one.

Silvia has sucked lately......Fedor hasnt done a dang thing lately... Should be a good fight !!

I agree about Silva. GSP not far behind (except for that little setback from Serra) and Fedor in his prime. I guess this fight with T. Sylvia will show whether Fedor's still there.

it could go either way (one lucky punch), but tim sylvia better bring it. fedor is more well rounded and if he gets him to the ground, that's going to be bad news for sylvia...

I think fedors still got it and if not he's got more than sylvia. seems like sylvia got to the top of his game a couple years ago and his ego got the best of him so he leveled off while everyone else was still evolving. in the same coin I much as I don't want to admit it we probably won't see the fedor of old but will the fedor now still possess the skills needed to dispatch sylvia, in my mind without a doubt. fedors russian, their a different type of beast out there they literally fight to live, thats way more motivation than sylvia ever had.

and I regretfully agree on the cro-cop issue, he's got some work to do but if their last fight is a prelude of things to come(imo one of the better and more evenly matched fedor fights) round 2 should be better. and as far as a chin? look at the randleman fight.

I think it is a good match-up. Certainly better than what we have been seeing with Fedor! You have to give it to "The Maniac", he always steps up and takes the toughest fights without question. Fedor on the other hand, at this point, is a big question. With all the Pride elite that fell like ametures to UFC competition, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Fedor get's KO'ed in the first minute. Is it likely IMHO? No. But, I wouldn't be surprised.

well theres always a puncher's chance. their both going to be rusty, but I think the only reason sylvia takes these fights is because he has to to quiet the critics the only problem is the critics end up being right and he's back at square one with a bruised ego again thus starting the cycle over. I still think he has relied to much on size and not enough on evolving with the fight game and for much as his size helps him it hurts him. imo he peaked awhile ago while we don't know where fedors peak is by the simple fact he hasn't lost(unless you count that one technicality) and he wins with dominance every time. he's just too much for sylvia he more powerful and way more explosive, but I guess he's always got a punchers chance.

Wasnt Sylvia hurt when he fought Couture? I can totally see Sylvia winning this fight. I think everyone is going to just take Fedor's side because he's Fedor. I'm not saying that he's not, but I refuse to read any MMA forums because everyone there thinks that NO ONE will EVER stand a chance against Fedor. The thing about Fedor is that he cuts easily too. If you watch the Lindland fight, ole Matt had him bleeding after the first couple of punches. You can also watch Fedor holding the ropes when Lindland was trying to take him down. I'd definitely like to know if it's going to be in a ring or a cage too. I think if it's in the cage, I'd pick Sylvia to win it. It may be reminiscent of the Sylvia/Vera snoozer, but It'll be hard to take Tim down in the cage (he's been known to "cage hump" as Dana White would say). I definitely dont see Fedor in the the UFC ever. I don't think he will win there. Yeah, he's beat big Nog twice, but that was then.... This should be interesting. Sylvia was beating Nog up pretty bad standing, and Nog couldnt take him down (not that Nog's takedowns are any good, but still...).

Did anyone see that Elite XC card where Rico Rodriguez fought that big brazilian dude (the Giant Silva or something)? That flying knee he tried to deliver in the third round was on another level :D. My buds and I still joke about that. Too bad about Rico, he was a bad dude back in the day.

nobody goes into a fight 100% saying you were injured after a loss is a classless excuse. and everyone talks up fedor because he's proven his record speaks for itself, all the criticism means nothing because no matter what happens he still wins. thats not the case with sylvia. personally I think sylvia is cocky and classless with not enough skill at this point to back up the attitude. until fedor loses I have nothing critical to say about him, not because I'm a fedor fanboy which I'm not, it's just because he wins period.

Agreed about the not going in 100% thing. Hell, I was pulling for Randy back then. I just dont think everyone should judge Tim from that one performance. Fact is, he is a little boring to watch, but more often than not...he wins as well. Tim Sylvia was on top of the heavyweight heap of the biggest MMA organization there is for a pretty good while, so he IS good. Fedor is good too, but he hasnt fought anyone that might give him a run for his money in a long time. He takes fights that are below him really. Not to discredit anyone who competes in MMA, they're all tougher than I am and it's easy for me to sit here and spout my opinion, but Fedor is world class and he is fighting people that arent on his level. The guy is very talented, for sure, but if he beats Syliva, I sure as hell dont see him just walking on through him like everyone says.

agreed mostly except the caliber of fighters fedor has fought. his wins are a laundry list of whos who in mma over the years. i think of him getting some less than stellar foes is not always his fault but alot of great fighters don't have or think they have what it takes to beat him and don't want to look like fools. but i do deduct respect points for ducking couture big time.
