hey guys. I've been using my PC for a couple years now and i'm very comfortable with it. im ready for the rotary jump. i have a few cars to practice on that it doesn't matter if i burn through.

my questions are:

being as cheap as possible here (broke college student)

what model should i buy? i dont want a huge bulky one

(i do have a harbor freight close)

where is a good place to get a small backing plate and small pads? (3-4" aggressive pads like pfw, orange etc..)

on a side note, does anyone have any rotaries laying around?

mostly going to be using it for headlight correction and jeweling, with the occasional heavy oxidation correction, i'm going to stick with my PC on most customer's cars.

TIA!!!! and happy easter :spot

IMO.........don't do it if you plan to use it more than a few times a year

buy a good tool and have it forever

I don't know of any cheap ones that will last..

but my Makita is over 16 year old

I have the Hitachi SP18VA and love it.. I have had it 2 years and it replaced my Milwaukee polisher. coastaltool.com has the Hitachi for $149. I love the fact that it is powerful, light and quiet. It is a very nice unit, just tighten down the D handle real good.

I agree with this 100% don't go cheap .Buy a quality unit Like Makita,Hitachi,Flex or one of a few others that a quality Durable units .You will save yourself headaches and money in the long run. Sometimes you can find a quality used brand name unit on ebay . Just my 2 cents

Go cheap, get the harbor freight one! Mine's awesome! Does the exact same stuff at 1/5 of the price... It's an obvious winner

Mine has worked fine for over a year now....but i do use the flex quite a bit more.

It does seem like the Harbor Freight would be a good choice to start with. Then when you can afford to step up, you can keep it as a spare.

but yall are saying its not worth it? is it a random orbital or DA?

is it good enough for a beginner, thats really all i need is something to stop polishing by hand lol

this is a rotary, and in the worng hands it can cause a LOT of damage

the quality is very hit or miss some people have some luck with them others hate them
