Looking for Legal Advice

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with a brand new house that I bought and I was hoping I could bounce some ideas off of a member that may have legal background.

Basically I bought a house with a two car garage under and on one side of the garage I cant even fit my wife's Honda Accord.

Can anyone help? I would rather discuss over private messaging especially if I may take this to court.

thanks!

Obviously not. But it is a matter of 6-8 inches that I would need for it to fit. But looking at it I never even thought that it wouldnt fit.

no offense, but i think this would be laughed out of court

didn't you notice this before you bought it?

my house also has a "2 car garage", they type with one big door. In order to fit two full size cars other than 2 civics, mini coopers, etc I would have to squeeze between the cars everyday, so one side is for cars and the other for lawnmower, etc... It is just the way it is.

I think you are going to have a fight on your hands if the garage matches the specs in the blueprints.

I could see a case if the garage was built smaller than what the blueprints called for but I don't think you have much of a case otherwise...

But I am by no means an expert....

lol, its a 2x4 come on...thats what it says, lol.

And Im not sure if a blueprint would hold up either, as he bought the house. He didn't have it built (from how I read it). So its what it is I would think.

And yeah the new 20x20 or so garages are nice. You tell me how I am going to fit my crew cab long box chevy with a 6 inch lift in it, lol.

Wagon - I appologize, I had no intention of sounding rude either.

The issue is the depth of the garage, not the width. But I guess to give some background....if the garage was 6-8 inches longer the car would fit. Its not like I need another 6 feet so it wasnt real obvious just looking at it. Second we were never given a plan showing any dimensions for the basement (its a two car under). Third, the house is advertised as a two car garage and in my mind that means it needs to fit 2 average sized vehicles.

Louisiana - I am not so sure I will be laughed out of court. Having talked to some people already Massachuestts has some very strong consumer rights laws. That is really what I am banking on.

I have talked to a lawyer that is in my office. But I was really just looking for other peoples experiences in this type of situation. I am just having a very difficult time lying down and giving up on this issue.

if it was advertised has a 2 car garage and you can barely fit one car in it then it is atleast false advertisement.

This can be argued until everyone turns blue. What is a car? A Mini Cooper is a car and I'm sure you can fit two in that garage. Also, this might be a first case of it's kind if taken to court.

No, its actually two doors. The stairs coming up from basement bump into the second bay causing it to be too small lengthwise. I can fit my 4-Runner in the first bay with enough room.

Your right...the builder basically told me that if we trade in our car for a smaller one than we have no problem. I told him if he wanted to buy me a small car for the rest of my life in the house than that would be fine. :D He didnt really find that so amusing!

I agree...I have found some sites that have some information but they all seem to be California, Arizona etc...nothing in Massachusetts
