Looking for a Autopia Detailer near Chico, CA

Hi, I have a 1992 BMW 735iL that has been repainted. It was not a very good job and needs some work, possibly wetsanding. I just got it a few months ago and the previous owner had it painted and he did not make sure the job was done well. I am in Gridley, CA Thanks, Diane

Good luck with that. I'd offer but its an 8+ hour drive for me so thats sort of not worth it for either of us lol

I don't know of anyone in the area. I would prefer to have someone do it, but I have no idea where. I have wetsanded a car before but this is a big car and I am not as young as I used to be. I have detailed my own cars for several years and know what I am doing which is why it is hard to take to anyone who is not as OCD as I am.

Well, not that many of us but some...

I'd be willing to do it but I think my mobile fee charges would turn you away, LoL. I wonder if artikxscout or d00t have seen this thread yet? Maybe they might consider taking the job since they're a bit closer.

I'd do it, but you're looking at 1k+ if there's wet sanding involved, or if the paint is oxidized, etc. Plus the cost to get there and lodging, as it'd most likely take a day or two. So figure $1300-1800 for the detail. I didn't reply 'cause I figured that's way out of your price range.

I would not have a problem at 1K but I fear the paint job on it may not be worth the expenditure. If you are in Newark I may see if I can arrange to have you look at it some time I am down that way. My husband works in SF but he usually takes amtrack and stays in the city leaving his car in Sacramento. If you have any interest please let me know. Thanks

I joined autopia over seven years ago, today after just working on the hood, it feels like seventy years. Nothing like detailing to make me feel old.

Can you send good high res pics for me to look at? To keep the cost down, maybe one day your husband can drive the car down on a friday, and I can keep it over the weekend so you aren't accruing mobile/lodging costs by letting me do it at my place. Let me know if you can get some really good pics!

I will get some high res pics tomorrow. My husband usually goes down on monday and stays through friday. But I will send you pics first. I am kind of thinking it may just need to be repainted right first, there seem to be a lot of flaws. I will send you pics and you can give me idea if you can do anything with it. Thanks, Diane

Hi, after wetsanding the hood and polishing it, I have decided it would be best to just get it repainted sooner than I had initially planned. The wetsanding cleared the orange peel but highlighted the flaws in the paint that was not obvious with the cover of the orange peel. Thanks for the advice and I will check back after the paint cures well so I have a good base to work with.
