Looking at alternate streams of revenue

I am a mobile detailer who is looking for alternate streams of revenue outside detailing. Right now I'm considering selling select detail products to clients who like to maintain their cars themselves in-between major details.

These are clients that I don't do regular maintenance washes for and otherwise wouldn't be making any incremental revenue off them. They would also potentially use drive thru car washes or the dealership washes that make my job more difficult when I do see them.

Does anyone have any experience with selling "light duty" products like car wash, quick detailer spray or supplies?

Also - I had some clients ask me to teach them how to perform regular maintenance themselves. I potentially see charging by the hour for detailing lessons - again these lessons wouldn't focus on major scratch removal, moreso on general maintenance techniques.

Anyone thought of doing this before?

I would charge by the hour for training stuff like that.

I am sort of in the same shoes as you, but I offer to help people with services that I don't necessarily focus on. I won't show a client how to correct paint because I focus on paint correction. I will however show a client how to wash their own car, because it's not worth the time and money clients are willing to pay me to wash their cars on a regular basis. I find helping a client in this way establishes a pretty good relationship. I've had clients call me while washing and ask questions. It has resulted in a few paint correction jobs too as they find something that they have done wrong. Not to say I'm capitalizing on their errors intentionally, but clients start to focus on learning the proper ways of doing things within their means.

One thing you can definitely do is offer to sell a wash kit to them. You could take a deposit for the wash kit first so you have a secured sale.
