Look at these MF's 12 for $8!

Hey guys, so I am -Sams Club- in Tucson,AZ and was waundering around in the cleaning supply section, and I saw a bag full of blue towels. There was a hole in which one could feel and I did so, they felt soft, but I felt as though a 70/30 blend @$8 for 12 they would be cheap towels. I said what the heck I will give them a shot (16"x16"), I washed/dryed them and ran my clean hand over them. I could feel the towels grab @ every imperfection on my fingers, just like my Viper MF towels! I want your opinions on if a 70/30 blend is good and what I should look for as to what makes good microfiber.

Thanks, Andrew

Yeah I was thrilled to grab those awhile back. But looking at them now, they aren't as good as my JT International MF. They lint and bleed color. I've just decided not to wash em and demote them for the worst areas. Not bad stuff. They work well for wheels.

man you got blue....all they had was yellow ones when i went to my local store......ill have to check again :jump

i thought they worked very well for the price of them...i think i picked up two packs of them the first time i saw them.....

i have the yellow ones from sams and costco, they are great for the price, altho i am new to m f's i have used them on the paint, i know some of you guys are like :bigscream , but i have not noticed any marring or problems with them on (MY) cars, i also have a couple nice white mf's from dwayne and they are nicer, i think these are great compared to the cotton towels i use to use, i say :bigups and cheap way to get started with mf's, and just for the record the grey waffle weaves from dwayne at pac are wonderfull !

I have 2 dozen of the yellow one's from price club. They aren't bad for the price but start to fall apart after appproximately 5/6 washes. IMO, I wouldn't take two many chances using them on paint.

The Costco ones seem better for me but the Sam's variety works great for low profile duty. I use them for wheel and engine cleaning. I prefer Wayne's, PakShak, and Sonus (Autopia) for paint work.

best test is not how rough the towels make your hands feel, you should rub a CD & see if it marrs.

But .....

How vigorously should you rub the CD? If I apply some UPP to a CD & take one of my cheapo Wal-Mart towels to remove the residue, the towel does not marr the CD.

But if I apply UPP to another CD & rub it really hard, much harder than I'd ever rub the paint, the cheapo towel will marr the CD.

I did the same test with an Autogeek Miracle towel & I can produce some mini-mini micro marring if you catch the light at just the right angle. It's very very slight ... but it's there 'cause I'm rubbing so hard.

Anyone's thoughts on this one???

As others have stated here, I think microfiber is really an area to not skimp on. You can save on other things like cleaners but I'm finding it really is so true that in the realm of mfs you really do get what you pay for for cloths you plan to use on the paint. That, said I'd consider Sams or Costco mfs solely , as noted, for lower body panel "grunge jobs" , undercarriage, wells ,etc

I agree with NYV6Coupe. I can produce marring on a CD with any cloth, and I'm likely applying far more pressure than I would on the paint.

Fact is we are all after the perfect finish but you can drive yourself nuts over it. None of my inexpensive MF cloths have ever produced marring and neither have my higher quality cloths. I'll slowly replace the inexpensive cloths with higher quality ones not because of fear of marring, but because the inexpensive ones will not hold up as long.

Just like I will never use a QEW or the like, some of you will never use anything but special order MF towels. Do as you wish, but it doesn't mean you're right..or wrong. :)

So what are the "best" (safest) mf's for paint? I n=have read that PAC artic white's are good, and so are Adams. What do you guys think?

Andrew

I have the arctic white and some green micros from Dwayne. I have some blue from Poorboy's. One gold from Adam's courtesy of Nick and some blue towels through awd330's generosity. I like them all. I have a few micros by DF but haven't used them yet.

The DF's are too nice to use. I've never had any trouble with Poorboy's or with any of the micros I previously mentioned.

I guess I agree with both of you guys. I haved used the cheapos as well and seen no marring caused by them. I admit that I am not a professional detailer or anything, but I do take pride in keeping my own (and family member's) cars clean. As many times as I have heard on this board that "it's 95% procedure and 5% product" I just can't believe that these MF from Costco are "far less superior" to any others. Maybe they won't last as long, don't look as good, don't feel as plush, etc. but I have had decent results with them. And the fact that they are fractions of the cost of some of the other MF probably means I will always have some around. Another thing that I have heard a lot on DC is "find something you like or that works for you and use it often." I think that's pretty good advice.

i agree jared, and the products i have been using, megs and poorboys, the products wipe off so easy i could almost go for a drive and have the residue blow off without wiping, i think if i had a product that was alot harder to wipe off, or was using spray and wipe i would be alot more concerned about the towels i was using, i also feel the cheap towels are still better than cotton :)
