Long Lasting Sealants

My question is once you apply it do customers feel no need for your services anymore? I notices alot of guys installing these great sealants but is it bad for the customer relationship? I know you can clay the car but at the end of the day I bet they only remember it last for a very long time. Please give me your 2cents!
 
Are you talking sealants or coatings? I think it's coatings, so I'll answer to that.



Most guys I've researched and talked to are informing the customers that they still need to come back for an annual polish and re-coatings every year or two, maybe longer.



No matter what, they still need interiors done :). Bring 'em back for a wash and interior shampoo instead of a wash, wax, polish...

Most of my regulars are opting for regular details and haven't seemed all that interested in Opti-Coat. However, I am getting a lot of new business I wouldn't have otherwise because I apply Opti-Coat. Whether or not they use me again, they do tell their friends or post in forums about the work I did and I get more customers that way. I am going to end up over 40% up over last year so I'd say Opti-Coat has been a big help in that department.
 
I think the benefit of coatings are a benefit of both Quena and Scottwax's responses. Some people you may never see again, but they will likely be good referral customers proud to show off the recent coating to friends/family. Regulars won't discontinue services with you, they'll just refocus their attention to other matters. I've only done one coating installation but have had lots of interest in OptiGuard. Most of my clients still also request polish and high quality wax vs polish & coating.



I don't expect that I'll be losing many (or any at all) clients to permanent coatings.
 
Exactly, John. I Opti-Coated a 335 yesterday, got hit up by 3 people today from the same forum. Already have one person scheduled, the other two pending availability in the next couple of weeks.
 
Put your client first while being honest and you will keep busy with referrals and calls when they get a new car.
 
And don't forget to remind them that coatings need proper care and that you are the right person for future clay and polish jobs.

if you don't mind my asking, what is your "upsell" technique for the OptiGuard/Coat? Purely explanation or showcasing product results?

This is a very important and I think a lot of people forget this face. The product minimizes surface contaminants and marring but does not eliminate them all together.

Referals will be your friend with a good coating, once friends and family see how good a vehicle can look properly corrected and coated they are usually happy to pay to get theirs done. Not to mention when it is time to give the interior a clean up the first person they are going to think of is the detailer that did the awsome job with the coating.
