i did a test for myself. before i even joined the autopia community (late october).. i started my test towards the end of september of 08...so i figured i would put my results here on the off chance i would help somebody else, plus i find these tests interesting and enjoy reading about them myself.
i started off by washing the family beater (96 cavalier, bright red) with dawn dish soap, and after drying; did the roof with pinnacle paint cleansing lotion. i then used 3m automotive tape to mask off just the roof into 6 equal strips going from front to back. i used 3m performance finnish on the entire car accept for the roof because thats my go to wax.. On the roof, i used 6 different types of waxes...Mothers FX synwax--3m performance finish--meguiars techwax 2.0--eaxle one nano wax liquid--black magic liquid wax--and nu finish. .. i wash it about once a month.. Its been about 3 to 3.5 months since then. it rained this morning, so i went out to check the beading.. ill list them from worst beading, to best. nano wax (almost completley gone), techwax (also almost completley gone.. it was sort of a tie between syn wax, black magic, adn nu finish. but 3m seemed to be the clear winner because it is still beading fairly well. everything accept for tech wax and nano wax are doing reasonably well at the time..
sorry the write up is a bit long. but i figured id share the knowlege with everyone
... by the way, once it warms up i plan to do more testing with different products... and a spray wax / quick detailer comparison... ill try to post pictures of those tests... hope this helps somebody.. happy detailing!!
