What is the average dry time for a liquid wax to get the best shine and protection?

it really depends upon the product and the conditions it was used under..ie heat or cold, sun or shade

How thick or actually thinly you apply the wax will make a difference in not only the dry time, but the ease of removal.
The extra wax that you have to wipe off doesn't have any benefit to your paint. It's just more work to remove, more apt to streak, more apt to dust, more apt to require more turning of your removal towel.
Thin is in. If you can see it on the paint, that's plenty. Maybe even more than plenty.
