Lighting upgrades/bulbs

I have a 2005 chevy suburban and did a headlight bulb upgrade,well worth the price.Rather than go with auto store bulbs I contacted "CONSULT DANIEL STERN LIGHTING" after 2 days he emailed me back and answered my question in regards to brighter lights.We went with a new bulb on the market that was hands down brighter than the over the counter auto parts stores carried.No monkey business with color's just pure high power white light!

The new bulbs are low temp and require no wiring upgrade.

The store he sent me to was CANDLEPOWER.COM.They are I believe in MD,and ship out orders the same day.When you need a bulb try these guys,it worked for me.:lol2:

After 2 days? He would have lost my business right there. In this day and age, customer service is held to a much higher standard. I sent an email inquiry to a company at 12:15 AM and received an answer within 10 minutes! Now that's customer service!

Unless you went with an HID conversion, this is not accurate. Silverstars and the new upgraded versions can be purchased at the parts store and short of HIDs, they are the brightest bulbs out. What is the color temp of the bulbs?

What do you mean by low temp? Color temp is used to describe the color of light that the bulb produces. (yellow, white, blue, purple, etc.)

Why would you buy a bulb over the internet that you can go into any parts store and get?

In my Suburban I use the Wagner Brite Lights, I haven't found anything better yet over the counter.

I'm the opposite,I will never buy an otc bulb...HIDS or nothing

But, for those of us that don't have HIDS, OTC bulbs will still be our mainstay.

Maybe it's all in the way I read the original thread, but I think the intent was to steer people to an expert that could advise them on the proper bulbs to use when upgrading from the OEM bulbs.
I have never gotten into the aftermarket bulb area, but not all of the counter guys/gals at our auto supply stores strike me as the ones I would want telling me what bulb to use for an upgrade.

Just wanted to let you know about what the stock upgrade for me.I did buy many over the counter bulbs and had no better response from the first set to the last.After getting the bulbs from can... pow.. The brightness was hands down better.I wanted an upgrade that was cost effective not an HID expense.

Also changed my dtrl's to an amber bulb through the same company.If you know anything about light bulbs guys you know the amber bulbs in this location do not last.Most guys do not change over because of the longevity factor.They heat up and leave a burnt color in the socket location.I now have the dtrl's I want and the bright bulbs without the HID cost.

I guess what I was saying was,Parts counter guys are ok,some good some bad.The luck in finding out how to brighten up my nights driving were 100% answered by the above mentioned people.And the cost was reasonable,and I have not changed out dtrl's sense the swap.Also at 59,814.00 For a new 2009 surburban LTZ I can live without HID brightness.:thanks:horse:

The new bulbs are TOSHEBA 9012 bulbs with new HALOGEN INFREED REFLECTION. The bulb is the same as a standard 9006 bulb but,the bulb glas is spherical verses tubular in shape.

LOW BEAM STOCK 9006,12.8V 55W 1000 LUMONS
875 HRS

LOW BEAM COMPAIR"NIGHTHALK" 9006X80 12.8V 55W 1112 LUMONS 275 HRS

LOW BEAM NEW "HIR" 12.8V 55W 1875 LUMONS AND 875 HRS.

This is why I could see the difference and was happy with the longevity in the easy upgrade.

Ok, after doing a quick look at the website at first, it just looked like another company selling aftermarket versions of stock bulbs.

My thing with OTC bulbs is that if Im traveling across the country and a headlight goes out, I know that I can go into any parts store and get a replacement and move on quickly,
I guess you could buy extra special order bulbs and keep them with you.:idea

My truck didn't come with hids,I bought and installed them...fairly cheaply as well

RobertP,I have my stock bulbs in the glove box just in case.However when I order more for the fogs then I'll get an extra set

I am aware of HID kits being available, but I think the meaning of the term "fairly cheaply" may vary from person to person.
Doesn't a kit for your truck cost close to $200 not installed?
A bargain if you need it, but......

They are getting much cheaper,I think mine were 60 shipped and maybe 10 minutes to install.2 years and not a problem yet.A halogen bulb just can't compare,the piaa bulbs were more than the hids lol.I was running silverstars before and I think they were 30.So I figure hids for twice the price and twice the light output kinda evens it out.At least from my point of view:bigups

yep..I was looking at a 400 dollar set and couldn't find a difference.What a rip off lol.I may even have a lifetime warranty,had them for almost 2 years.I got them after my silverstar bulb blew after 3 months

I have Silverstars in my Santa Fe's headlights and upgraded the fog light bulbs. The stock bulbs are the 880 style which rate a measly 27 watts. An 899 style is the same shape bulb but rates at 37.5 watts. That extra 10.5 watts makes all the difference in the world and really improve poor weather visibility.

I wanted to go higher but '01 and '02 Santa Fe's came with 50+ watt bulbs from the factory which caused the housings to melt which is why they downgraded. I figured 37 was a good compromise. So far, it's been a year and no melting.

He doesn't sell many bulb but answers a lot of questions on them.... so i don't expect him to answer quickly...

Plus I had to school him on Baja's as they have two different lighting systems turbo vs NA have different lights

16 March 2009: This bulb has been discontinued by Toshiba, and is not presently being manufactured by anyone, anywhere. We are working to bring this bulb back to market in the long run. For now, we recommend the new Philips Xtreme Power maximum-performance 9006/HB4 bulb.
