Lexol Vinylex

I was looking for an easily sourced rubber trim/interior protectant, but could not find Meguiar's 4x anywhere. I did locate some Vinylex pretty much everywhere I went, so I decided to try it.

After some searches here, it seemed like it would fit the bill well. I was looking for something to clean and protect both the interior and rubber seals that was not too shiny, but more matte in finish.

I have used Lexol's leather products and the smell was quite atrocious, so I was not looking forward to anything similar. I noted DavidB's comment that when he tried it, it would make him gag. Thankfully, I was pleased to find that there is no oder.

Application with a foam applicator goes easily enough and there's not much drip until the pad gets soaked. I've found it's best to do the edges near glass and fabric first, and then as the pad gets soaked to fill in the areas skipped.

I left it on for a while (1 to 2 minutes) and buffed with an mf towel. Buffing helped fill in/remove some minor streaking. It leaves a real nice semi-glossy, semi-matte finish and also removes dirt quite well (and I thought that I had already cleaned it!)

I found how well it works on the rubber trim, but I think I need more cleaning action as there are some stains/spots that I was unable to get out. It leaves a real nice silky feeling to the rubberstripping. Not too shiny, actually looks like the way clean rubber is immediately after you wash the exterior.

Since I don't care for a glossy look to my tires, I won't try it there, but maybe I'll give it a whirl right before I get a new set (soon!) to see how it looks.

All in all, I was quite pleased with the results and look forward to using it regularly.

Jim you are right Vinylex has a slight gloss to it, more than 303 but not much. It is not glossy at all on tires, very matte on tires, for me too matte, you should try it. It is a quality product and is all about personal taste.

I like Vinylex as well and love it on my tires. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't last long on the tires and streaks when I buff it off on the interior. Otherwise, it's a great product, very nice look to it.

So where all can you find this? I'll probably end up with the new, safe formula of Armor All, but I'd like to know if this is just as easy to find.

I found Lexol Vinylex and both leather car products at Pep Boys.

I have about 10 ounces left of the Vinylex form my 3L jug...So I'm good for now.

"I did locate some Vinylex pretty much everywhere I went"

I wish that were true for me. Target, WalMart, KMart, Checker Auto Parts, Napa, local auto body supply stores, all ZIP on Vinylex.

No Pep Boys anywhere near. The Lexol web site lists Ace Hardware as a distributor. Tried that too, nada.

Any other chain stores carry Vinylex?

Yeah, I coulda mail ordered it ten times by now but it's easier to

sneak more detailing products in the house if they don't arrive at

the front door in a big cardboard box. :D ;)

I find it at all of my local car dealers. It costs about a dollar more than the mail-order places, but I don't have to pay for shipping.

You can find Vinylex by doing a search on any search engine you will get many returns also try Autopia.com.Many online stores have it. Another source is places that sell toneau covers for trucks these covers are constantly in the sun and the makers recommend either 303 or Vinylex.
