Lexol Auto Care Premium Protectant

From Autopia Car Care product page:

Lexol Premium Protectant for Rubber & Vinyl is a patented formula developed for the care and preservation of vinyl, rubber and plastic surfaces. It combines cleaning, protection and maintenance into a simple one-step process, penetrating beneath the material’s surface layer to restore its underlying components. Lexol Premium Protectant is formulated to clean and protect your car’s rubber, vinyl and plastic surfaces. It delivers a new car finish quickly. This convenient 4 oz. size is perfect to keep in your vehicle. Your vehicle will always look great and stay protected!

Use Lexol Premium Protectant regularly to protect:

Dashboards
Vinyl Seats
Vinyl Door Panels & Consoles
Trim
Rubber Tires

How it works: Dual silicone action penetrates below the surface layer to nourish and revitalize. Professional grade formula brings out the original, lustrous finish and helps prevent cracking. NDH-60 UV sunscreen blocks harmful ultra-violet rays to prevent fading, discoloration and premature aging.

Use only as directed. May cause slipperiness. Do not use on floors, pedals, grips, steering wheels, bench-type or cycle seating or other places where slipperiness may be hazardous. Keep all chemicals out of eyes and out of reach of children.

The protectant comes in a simple bottle without much flair. The good news is that the narrow shape means it’s not uncomfortable to hold. However, I’m not a fan of the sprayer on the bottle and the overall appearance makes me think it belongs with my wife’s hair care products more than my detailing cabinet. The labels, almost unfortunately, are on rather well and I don’t think you’ll ever have to worry about them peeling off. I say it’s almost a bad thing because they cover the entire bottle except the top ¼-½” of the bottle and they are slick.

The slick labels do hold quite a bit of information. A pretty short yet informative product description along with your typical protectant instructions are crammed on to the label but not difficult to read.

The liquid atomizes out of the sprayer very well. It probably helps that it is extremely thin - I’m talking almost water type of thin. It applied very easily and evenly. However, it was difficult to tell exactly where it was spread because it didn’t change the trim much. As in, no visible change except the surface was temporarily wet. It smelled atrocious. Not nearly as bad as Iron X, DUB Wheel Cleaner, or many other hard hitting products but, beyond bad enough that I did not want to continue using it.

I can’t speak to the durability of the product, nor will I ever be able to. I applied it to a section of the front dash and the driver’s door panel and that was it. After it dried and I took the after shots, I wiped the panel again with Meguiar’s QID and went over with my normal dressing of choice, CG Silk Shine. After using and being pretty impressed with the Lexol Auto Care Premium Tire Shine I was extremely disappointed in their protectant. I’m sure that the actual UV protectant was left on the surface, but the odor was too strong for my liking.

Dash 50/50 after application. About halfway across the hump for the gauges is where I stopped. Left side is with protectant, right side has no protectant. I could not see a visible difference between the two.

I received the protectant free of charge and I do not plan to purchase it. I hate to post a bad review about a product - I really do - but I just couldn’t tolerate the smell. I could have waited to see if it dissipates and it wouldn’t have been bad, but I was in a hurry and don’t have too much time to redo if it doesn’t. However, if you’re after the protection and no shine (normally my cup of tea but prepping to sell this beat up daily driver) Lexol Premium Protectant for Vinyl & Rubber is available in a 4 oz. size from Autopia Care Care. I just wanted to do a review since Autopia was great enough on their last sale to include the free gifts for everyone’s order.

NOTE: This is review #2 and this seems to be becoming a trend. Yes, I copied some of the review from my review of http://www.autopia.org/forums/detailing-product-reviews/182168-lexol-auto-care-premium-tire-shine.html]Lexol Auto Care Premium Tire Shine[/URL] due to the almost identical packaging and product consistancy. Forgive the gunk in the door handle, quick job and I didn’t have time to get everything. Also, ignore the crap on the outside of the windshield. This car is in the middle of many projects. Trying to get some experience with everything I can before I sell it (added bonus: might make the car look better and easier to sell).
