Leveling touch-up paint

I have touched up a few rock chips with touch up paint and I want to level the touch-up.

If I use a Mequires 2000 grit wet sanding block, will 3M PI-III remove the scratches caused by the wet sanding?

Is there a better way of accomplishing my task?

TIA for your help!

Langka or Mothers works pretty well after you learn how to use it.

PAINT CARE

CALIFORNIA GOLD® PAINT CHIP REPAIR

Let’s face itâ€â€no matter where you drive, chips happen. Rocks and road debris can pit your paint’s surface, creating unsightly marks and leaving your car vulnerable to rust and corrosion. Touch up paints can vastly improve the appearance of your vehicle, but tend to leave behind “blobsâ€ of paint. Mothers®â€™ new Paint Chip Repairâ€â€used in conjunction with matching touch up paintâ€â€will remove those blobs, leaving the surface perfectly smooth and looking like new.

Hope this helps

Thanks NHBFAN!

Great post. I currently have the haze left from sanding as you did in those pictures. I have a PC and PI III and was wondering if the PI III was aggressive enough to remove the hazing.

I currently do not have any Griots products.

Anyone accomplish this with PI III or do I need something more aggressive?

Thanks.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

I would think 3M PI-III would remove the scratches.

Q: Do you need to use 2000 grit paper on new touch-up paint to level it? I usually use 1200 and then a fine polish.

VIN, What Perfect IT III are you talking about? The Rubbing Compound PN 05933 or Machine Glaze Pn 05937?

I also use a Megs 2000 grit sanding block to level touch ups. I need the Rubbing Compound first than the Machine Glaze to remove the scratches if I work by hand. If I use the PC I can clean up the scratches with just the Machine Glaze.

05937 with a pc. I am glad to hear that you can remove the scratches. I was going to do it this weekend and was hoping I didnt need to purchase something additional. I will let you know how it turn out.

to answer your question, or not - i dont know if i actually need to use 2000 grit vs 1200 grit. i just wanted to use the least abrasive method first. it seemed to level it just fine, with very little effort. everything is smooth to the touch, just some hazing left to remove.
