I was window shopping for the Hero4 Black for a while and knew it was the one I wanted as it has the best specs and the black edition usually holds their value really well. I knew I wasn't going to shoot in 4K but having top specs meant more flexibility for me. Well, Christmas came and to my surprise, my fiancee got me a GoPro! I was over joy until I saw it was the Hero4 Silver. I wanted the Black! Turns out she knows me better than myself, and I happily kept it after playing around with.
Here's why I prefer the Hero4 Silver over the Hero3+ Black and Hero4 Black
- Middle in the range price tag between the Hero3+ Black and Hero4 Black
- It shoots in 1080p at 60 FPS and this was my primary requirement (this is what your eyes see, 30 FPS becomes choppy, and more than 60 FPS is not really necessary)
- Hero4 Black shoots in 4K but at max of 30 FPS - even at 30 FPS would max out a memory card pretty quickly. I did not need 4K anyways
- It has a LCD touch screen which I found surprisingly convenient. I thought I did not need it as all previous generations of GoPro did not have one. Man, its so nice to switch from setting to setting without looking at the digital screen in the front
- With Hero4 Silver, you get the latest GoPro with its slimmer design and latest specs. Yes it's still behind the Hero4 Black but you're not paying top of the price tag.
- If I ever wanted to purchase a second GoPro Hero4 Silver, I know I can get it cheaper than a second GoPro Hero4 Black (more retail discounts and lower price tags on craigslist/kijiji)
I hope my feedback can assist your purchase decision
