I think I'm going to finally take the plunge. I've got a couple snowmobile trips coming up, we take lake vacations during the summer, and take the kiddos to water parks a couple times a year. The 3 I've been looking at are the 3+ Black, 4 Silver, and 4 Black. I don't think I can justify the extra $100 for the 4 Black and the other two are about $50 difference. What are you guys using? Likes/dislikes? Any advice for accessories, mounts, bundles, etc???

I got a hero 3 last year and took it snowboarding with me. Great camera with amazing quality. You can also use its WiFi to link it to your smartphone and you can control the camera through an app (as well as now have a display of what the camera sees). I'm not sure how much more you get out of the silver and black ones, I think when you step up you can record at 4k resolution which IMO is overkill. The mount sucks IMO. I had several videos where the camera actually just tilted down from the bumps and recorded the top of my helmet. Very annoying and I really had to crank down on the clamp to get it to stay put. They do have a large variety of different mounts though and it can get expensive. The one I want is the gopole I think its called which is basically a selfie stick for your gopro, but you get some awesome snowboarding shots with it (YouTube it).

Also keep in mind that you are going to need to spend another $50-$60 for the SD card. I believe I paid something like $60 for mine which was 64gb I believe. You have to get a specific type that can actually keep up with the camera because standard SD cards aren't fast enough or something, I forget, its been a year since I bought mine

I was window shopping for the Hero4 Black for a while and knew it was the one I wanted as it has the best specs and the black edition usually holds their value really well. I knew I wasn't going to shoot in 4K but having top specs meant more flexibility for me. Well, Christmas came and to my surprise, my fiancee got me a GoPro! I was over joy until I saw it was the Hero4 Silver. I wanted the Black! Turns out she knows me better than myself, and I happily kept it after playing around with.

Here's why I prefer the Hero4 Silver over the Hero3+ Black and Hero4 Black
- Middle in the range price tag between the Hero3+ Black and Hero4 Black
- It shoots in 1080p at 60 FPS and this was my primary requirement (this is what your eyes see, 30 FPS becomes choppy, and more than 60 FPS is not really necessary)
- Hero4 Black shoots in 4K but at max of 30 FPS - even at 30 FPS would max out a memory card pretty quickly. I did not need 4K anyways
- It has a LCD touch screen which I found surprisingly convenient. I thought I did not need it as all previous generations of GoPro did not have one. Man, its so nice to switch from setting to setting without looking at the digital screen in the front
- With Hero4 Silver, you get the latest GoPro with its slimmer design and latest specs. Yes it's still behind the Hero4 Black but you're not paying top of the price tag.
- If I ever wanted to purchase a second GoPro Hero4 Silver, I know I can get it cheaper than a second GoPro Hero4 Black (more retail discounts and lower price tags on craigslist/kijiji)

I hope my feedback can assist your purchase decision

If you lived near me I would sell you my 3 with the led screen, auto attachments. I bought it thinking I would use it and only used it twice.

I recently received my Hero 3 Black edition. I have no idea how to use it, so I'll be busy learning the next few days. I'll let you know what I think...

I just got a Hero3+ black edition too. Still learning how to use it. I wanted to make a driving in the snow video today, but that would have meant giving up my corner parking spot in the garage. I value my paint too much lol.

I have the 3 plus black . It's fun, decent quality. If you don't need it to be waterproof the vented back case will allow you to get much better sound.

That video looked and sounded great. Mine sounds like a$$ mounted outside the car.The wind noise is terrible. I've tried some of the suggestions online and haven't had any luck. I didn't buy an external mic.

Depends on what you want, I'm a huge camera guy and I can tell you don't buy into the 4k. I do use it an it's definitely amazing but you need to have everything to get the most out of it. 4k tv, supporting cables (99% of usb an hdmi do not support tru 4k, you need a very special mhl 3.0 cable. I paid 100$ for the cable alone.) an a tv processor powerful enough to run it without lag.

Back to cameras, I have a hero3 black but if I were a new buyer I'd definitely get the hero4 silver. The built in LCD display is awesome an the low light capabilities have much been improved over the hero 3 an 3+.

Well, I think I'm pretty set on getting the 4Silver. Now I got figure out what accessories and mounts to get....this could get outta hand quickly lol

Very cool. I have a few good friends with Si's and all three of them are trying to pressure me into buying one lol. One of them is waiting for the TYpe-R. They have Hondata's and intake/exhaust.
Thank you. They are very fun cars and you can't beat them for the price.

Thank you. I used the waterproof case backing which probably helped reduce the wind noise, but of course it muffles other sounds.
