Let's talk about Collinite Metal Wax

Here's the issue: I have uncoated polished aluminum wheels on my car. They are a PITA to maintain. I currently have a powerball and power metal polish as well as some cotton bits that I run on my drill for polishing. Reading the description of Metal wax makes it sound like something that would really be great for the wheels. It's compared to a Cleaner Wax for metal and it should protect the metal as well. If it's got a rep like the rest of the Collinites for durability, then I think it's a no brainer. What say you Autopians?

I would use a sealant. With uncoated alluminum, I would use OptiSeal. That is more for ease of use. It rubs right into almost every wheel I have tried it on.

Thanks, but I dont think OS has any cleaning action. That was one of the things that appealed to me about the Metal Wax.

A friend of mine uses it on his truck job box which is uncoated diamond plate and his Alcoa uncoated rims....and he loves it...they always look good....he said it really cleans them and lasts....for what its worth..

I have used it on a stainless railing at work, and on some etched-in brake dust on the inside of my painted wheels, and I think it's great stuff. It's rather thin, it's kind of like the Sapphire Cleaner Wax with metal polish mixed in.

At least someone knows what I go thru every now and then. I say go for it and see what results you get. I would also recommend, in your travels, Blue Magic or Flitz metal polish. They are both excellent, and are compatible with clearcoated polished wheels. Both polishes will make short work of oxidation (which will be near impossible to get out of polished aluminum w/o a metal polish).

Since your wheels are not coated, then your options could be even wider. I would give flitz a try, since it is a bit more active than blue magic. I like blue magic because it has a smoother polishing effect and they do a nice job in cutting the oxidation as well.

Good luck.

Yeah! It's really a PAIN to keep on top of. I've gotten pretty proficient with a bufferon paint, but the Powerball and drill isnt exactly the most fun thing to use on my wheels because of the way the spokes curve. I'll pick up some Flitz this weekend from ACE. Thanks a ton.

I agree with Ibls1 on the flitz. I have used it on aluminum and it works great. Also on chrome. It's kind of time consuming but you can polish your rims till they are where you want them and then clear coat them. Or I have herd of some truck drivers use mop and glow on there rims and tanks. Good luck . Joe

i've got uncoated aluminum rims also tha i just polished weith the mini power ball and mothers aluminum polish, ok i guess but i'd like to get them to look like chrome or close to it. i'm gonna try the blue magic and this stuff zephyrpro 40 you can goole it i've heard raves about from others on site. when try it i'll give a heads up. also want try english rouge.:buffing:

The Adams and the ClearKote metal polishes look pretty interesting, but I wonder if they work as well as they claim to. Anyone tried those?

I have a fair amount of uncoated polished aluminum on my 67 Mustang, engine components and wheels. I have tried a lot of polishes, Blue Magic, Flitz, Wenol, Mother's, and some others. I have also tried Clearkote and Adams.

I like the Adams best, the 2 part formula seems to work very well to maintain the already polished aluminum. The #1 cleans and the #2 polishes, the more I polish with it the shinier the aluminum gets. The Clearkote is more like the #2 Adams.

All the others work OK but the Adams will put a shinier chrome like shine on my aluminum and the Clearkote will shine it very well if it's not too oxidized or scratched to begin with.

I haven't tried the Mother's Billet but felt no need to after the Adams.

Wow, I wasn't expecting Adam's to work better for you than Flitz. I may have to go ahead and order some Adams. Thanks for that.

i just got a set of ccw t-10's put on my ride, like your wheels they're polished aluminum. i bought this poilish called zephyr pro40, used it with my powerball and it came out really nice with little effort. it's 8.50 for 8oz's. google it to find the site. when your done polishing use porboys wheel sealant x3 and all you'll need to clean them is car wash soap and water. the sealant is made to withstand the heat of the wheels. just refresh every couple of months. i can't speak about some of the other products mentioned as i'm sure they're al good, but this particular sealant is formulated esp[ecially for wheels. hope this helps.
