I haven't done a full writeup yet complete with before/afters, 50/50s etc because it's so time consuming on top of the detail that seems to take forever! Major props to youse guys that do writeups as well as share your processes, etc.
Here's one with stark results. Wish I woulda run a strip of tape stem to stern and got the 50/50s.
This is Dad's '74 Nova with abused, neglected SS paint. Sits outside and rarely gets washed and I suspect it'd never seen clay. He wanted it spruced up just a bit in order to stick a For Sale sign on it after he picked up the new Honda.
I knew I was going to have to compound to remove the oxidation. I initially tried M105 on LC orange with the Flex, didn't produce the desired results so I gave PFW a try. Normally I'd hold a wool cutting pad and rotary in reserve but there were spots where the paint was thin enough that some primer was showing through. Pretty common occurance on early '70s GM stuff with silver and white paint. Used to see a lot of 'em running around peeling in spots!
There was no potential for a serious 'save' on this car, the best opportinity was to restore some semblance of shine and get it looking good for drive-bys.
This was the roof 50/50 after the one and only pass with M105 and PFW. The whole car got this treatment after claying and then a coat of 845. Wish I woulda got full before and after pics.... it was a stark difference from 20 ft away!
