Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Her point:Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, 'No! I like it here. It's better than my house. I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house You are Required to feed me You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You are Required to Educate my kids You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family

My husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest. (except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, and I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so that you can communicate with me.

Thats about as simple as it gets right there.:bigups

Sounds about right to me. There's legal ways to move here and obtain citizenship. I don't understand what part of illegal immigrant some of these people don't understand.

i like cheap tacos and housekeeper/lawn guy oh yea and real nice landscaping dirt cheap .. and they take up alot of beds at the correctional facility i make a great living at..send yours over here well take all you can give us . they also pick all the great/ cheap produce we enjoy . do you need any detailing advice? im real good at that ..oh yea sometimes i let them wash my car for $5.00..it is almost like voluntary slavery . we get cheap labor from them give them none of the benefits we are entitled to then when they want a piece of the pie we get all upset . its not right but thats how it works around here . we will always have illegal residents . all i can say is thank god i was born in a country where people die trying to get what was handed to me ..i dont have the answers but i do see what is going on

Bad analogy, but I see her point. They shouldn't be here, because they are here illegally. Many die trying to get here, desperate for a better life. I guess until you've lived a mile in their shoes, you'll never know what their desperation is like and what it makes them do to survive (our top instinct btw).

I wonder if there's a right or wrong answer to this. Dozerboy, have you ever seriously and I mean seriously, ever tried to empathize with them?

It is sorta like any problem...if there was no demand for them they would not be here.

I think the answer is fairly simple: Give them amnesty, create a guest worker program, and tax their income like many Americans. Now this does not mean some percentage will not work for cash (just like some "honest" legal residents do) but it is a start.

It is a waste of time and effort to try build walls to keep them out which says something about national security improvements since 9/11 nor are you likely to jail many for hiring them.

OK FIRST OFF YOU BROKE IN RIGHT. The law here states "you LEGALY need to ask the person to leave the house".

Second thing will happen is a loud noise " GUNSHOTS" If they know people have had enough here that foolishness will end quick.

Not shot in the arm or knee, they cops will here one side of the story not two. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. :howdy

I have had some experience with U.S. immigration and its a slow process. (yes ME the guy concerned about saving a penny or two on wash soap) The reason is simple, They have no money in there country the same as many other countries on this planet. How do I know "I been around ya know" seen it, lived it. I spent the better part of 30-K and 16 months with immigration processing. This is AFTER, NOT INCLUDING a 2 year vacation in several other countries. " PLEASE this was not subsidized by anyone " not uncle SAM" rather just my personal fact gathering mission " I have a buddy retired and living abroad and had an open invitation to visit him and his family so why not go.

I also know most people in other countries are HAPPY people, sure they are poor buy in general much happier than most here. It is a very humbling experience seeing how other people in other places live. The school kids walking out for school from some dilapidated shack in perfectly washed and pressed school uniforms. The gals washing cloths by hand, and living on 100-300 U.S. dollars a month. Children having respect for there elders, and a willingness to help anyone they can. Not like here that's for sure. If I was hungry walking the streets in the places I lived abroad I could knock on just about any door and get a dish of food. Here we would call the cops first and then be happy the hauled the beggar off. Anyone with 1 oz of compassion would be humbled by most other countries and there living conditions.

Sure not all of that cost was to the government, but support and flights abroad were a large factor." Once starting the immigration process I had a barrage of papers and filings to do here" I would have rather had a new car, garage, ect helping my own country's economic recovery. People want to come here because its the best place on the planet hands down it's just that easy and simple. Next time you here some mope crying about his state subsidized palace or food money just laugh. Most other places get nothing yes nothing from there governments. You are hungry who cares, need a place to stay, who cares yes that's the way it is. Its that much in your face so why would they not wanna be here after watching a U.S. TV show. They see what we have and want a life like what they see we have its that simple.

They all know with the stringent regulations imposed under the immigration rules, there could be little or no chance of getting here legally. So they now come over here any way they can knowing they will have a better life when here. We right now don't have enough people to stop them from crossing. And don't forget the liberals, feeling bad for them all... Who cares about people coming here "legally", surely not I. But when they get here they should be requires to follow the rules like we all do. No special ANYTHING, no free taxes, health care, rents, food, special schooling and a FOOTBATH in the local high school. You come here you either accept what we do or get the hell out. " Please remember they will have a better life 100% better no questions when they arrive in this country" That's the way it is abroad, "YOU" ARE A FOREIGHNER, you are required to follow our rules or LEAVE.

Remember if they are here they are all sending money back across the border to the relatives. We need people fueling OUR economy not just taking the free stuff here and sending the cash south. The problem is much bigger than a simple walk across a brook.

wow.

That's the other guy, The above is MY view on the problem from living it and FUNDING IT ALL.

Bad analogy, but I see her point.
How is that its not perfect but...
They shouldn't be here, because they are here illegally. Many die trying to get here, desperate for a better life. Many? What about the many that have died for this country. Maybe if they died to better there country instead of trying to get into ours they as a country would be better off. But I guess they would have to think of more then themselves. Or what about all the people they kill over here everyday? We have had at least 3 cops killed by illegals in just as many months. I guess until you've lived a mile in their shoes, you'll never know what their desperation is like and what it makes them do to survive (our top instinct btw). Desperation doesn't give you that right to do whatever you want. Survival only take food, water, and shelter nothing else.

I wonder if there's a right or wrong answer to this. Of coarse there is its called the law Dozerboy, have you ever seriously and I mean seriously, ever tried to empathize with them?

Yes I have. Thats is how I know we live in the Greatest Country in the world.

So what do you suppose they should do to all the illegals in this country?

That's a tough question for sure. I guess to be fair just let the ones here stay. Make them get jobs pay taxes and limit them to working the system. Then let them bring in family members on there dime LEGALY.

Its a tough thing to regulate and keep everyone happy for sure.

well there are always three sides to every story ..

yes, it's not right that anyone comes and stays illegally ...

no we could not survive without the migrant workers as Big Ron said as Americans don't want to do that kind of work ...

there is no real solution :passout:

I don't know about the ones here now. First we need to stop the ones coming here. Mostly likely they could stay, but need to be forced to become legal. Not with some stupid fine neither, but in away that will make them a true citizens. The ones that can't do that should be sent back to where they came from.

no we could not survive without the migrant workers as Big Ron said as Americans don't want to do that kind of work ...
For starters we are not talking about migrant workers this is about illegals. Thats BS and I would expect more from a guy that is a business owner. We are not going to just give up if that where to happened.

there is no real solution :passout:
With your attitude your right the problem will never get fixed.

I don't mean my commits as an attack on you PB just the ideas you stated. I truly have a hard time believing anyone deep down feels that way. This country was not built by people that gave up nor should it be ran that way today.

What, your Canadian too? :)

(Stirring the pot)

Regardless of your intentions for saying that. I'm glad you feel that way and wish that all Canadian felt that way. Then we don't have to worry about the northern border. Eh?:D

OK my turn. Lets see, HMM, left , right or down the middle. HMM. Well Im at least the 3rd generation born here in the USA. Got that out ok. Whew! Info I have heard from the past is that during both WORLD WARS, the speaking of any language was prohibited in churches. OK, yes Im nearly 1/2 German, the other Danish. I understand the prohiting of German during war, but they even took Dansk away. Im am in the largest settlement of people of Danish decent. Ok back to my rant. They government Made my ancesters change their language in the first part of the 20th century, why cant this be done in the 21st century? Those crossing in from the south should learn Americanized English just like my ancesters had to. They could not communicate back then so the Danes and all others had to adapt. Why isnt it that the southern immigrants can get by qithout adapting?? I dont remember ever the country being in a war with DENMARK! But my ancesters had to change! Weve had battles with ols Mexico in the 1800's, and Spain also. All other immigrants that come here fgrom other countries are quite willing to learn to communicate in Americanized English. (Some of those are quite difficult to translate but they adapt better than the southern neighbors do. As for them coming after jobs. Hmm. In this area the migrant workers detassle for the seed companies and work in the packing houses. Im going to blame the packing house thing on, HMM, locals wanting to not have to work with their hands. (Yes I have an uncle that works in one, hes nearly the only non hispanic in the boning area where he works. Why hes stayed there for 35 plus years I dont know!) I have another reason why the hispanic worker is in all these jobs is the the college kid today doesnt want to start at the bottom and work up, they want the executive job NOW! Back to previous stuff. The migrant is availanle in large numbers, are willing to work (was going to incert the word HARD but!!), the group gets the job at hand done fast, so to speak. Can locals do the timely work of detassling corn in the summer on time? Hmm, NO because people want their nights and weekends off from work to go play! And the teachers who are off at tyhis time are lazy too! To hard to work 190 days a year and still not make enough money that they need 5% raise every year. (I knew I should have became an ag teacher, at work 8 hours a day, good pay, 190 days a year, climate controlled work place, cheap lunch, clean work area, a shop available 365 days a year, some Hotties to either work with or watch.) Got off subject, sorry. MY OPINION is that it ALL started with UNIONS and I H*** them! They arnt needed any more! I coluld go on but its midnight already.

I think the primary reason the government really has not enforced the laws is 1) all they can do is really deport them so they can get back through our "secure since 9/11 borders" and 2) they fulfill a needed role in the economy. While they are here they are spending money (besides what is sent back home if there is any) on housing, food, cars, etc. so they are supplementing the economy. I am sure if we somehow got rid of them all the economy would shrink and food prices and many other items would go up in price or just get more imports from LA where a lot of food comes from anyway.

In the long run, if we contain the load on the system, they make American better just like every other migration that has happened since the country was founded. There have been people against even legal immigation since the country was founded with various acts and laws passed.
