Hi All,
Received the below goods from Autopia during the "Left Lane Giveaway".
1pc HD Protect.
1pc Polish Angel Supersport
1pc Poorboy`s Vanilla Air Freshener
2pc Microfiber Towels
This weekend, I had the chance to try the HD Protect, and the Polish Angel Supersport.
Let`s get down to business.
HD Protect:
Leather seats were cleaned with Ultima Interior Shampoo. Plastics and all else were wiped down with Meguiars Quik Interior Detailer.
Here are the seats before cleaning:
After cleaning:
HD Protect is a "high" viscosity cream, that smells of leather, and wipes easily onto the surfaces. A few seconds after application, high spots flash and the surfaces are left darker, and with no greasy feeling, and a low satin sheen. Not bad. I don`t like high gloss, anyway, so this is up my alley. Adding more product didn`t seem to add more shine. This is good.
The 50/50 money shots:
Whole interior now done:
Thoughts:
This is a nice product, that offers alleged protection, while not significantly altering the look and feel of surfaces applied to. HD Protect did darken the leather and plastics - but not to a degree that was significantly noticed, after the entire interior was covered. Further - the longer the product "dried", the less darkening and sheen was left on the surfaces.
This product reminds me a lot of the DP Interior Protectant. For $10 a pop, this is pretty good!
Polish Angel Supersport:
Rims were cleaned with Meguiars D143, and various brushes. Hard surfaces wiped down with Tarminator, and 10% IPA solution (and then rinsed/dried). And then 10% IPA wipedown after polishing.
Polishing was done via a drill with a 3" wool ball (I think a Lake Country?) and Meguiars Ultimate Compound. This combo made short work of the marring and scratches that I obviously put onto the rims while cleaning. I only really cared about polishing up the black painted pockets...the faces are fine, and any scratching...I don`t notice.
I`d like to say I polished only 1 rim, to have a control, for a legitimate experiment - but I`d be lying. I was tired. And hot. So I only polished one rim. The other three were just cleaned. Whatever. I`m at peace with that.
What this accomplishes, however, is a reasonable comparison to a rim without the Supersport - as to see how well it cleans up, next round, or to see how much brake dust does or does not settle on the surface.
I didn`t get any shots of the polishing process, as it was hot and I was tired and just wanted to be done. Anyway, here is what a rim looks like after about 3 weeks of normal driving.
And here`s the rim that was cleaned, polished and coated with Supersport (pockets and faces - not barrels):
Thoughts:
The product is a chunky consistency, with clumps of white sludge mixed with aqua blue slime. Mild petroleum solvent scent.
After vigorous shaking, the slurry started to come together - but sill with clumps. Whatever. I was tired at this point, and just wanted to spray down the damn wheel and get on with it.
The product sprayed and wiped in well - as one would expect. I applied to a towel and then wiped on the surfaces. It nearly disappeared into the surfaces. A quick buff and all was good.
No other thoughts offered - until after a few weeks of driving has taken it`s toll on the "Supersported" wheel.
I`ll be back with thoughts on the "protection" in a few weeks.
Thanks to Ray and the Autopia crew for the products. Very cool!
