leather repair ? adding texture /grain for the diy'er?

ive been doing some leather patch ups and a re color /dye job , trouble is where its been sanded alot that area looks too smooth

can anyone comment on any spray on grainer /texture products ? idealy id love to see a pic

this is for diy use so i cant buy into an expensive iron on system

The best grain pattern will always be achieved with a heat dried system which would involve a heating iron (although you can use a heat gun if you are very very careful). The grain is generally imprinted into the filler used during the repair. The problem with doing this system with a repair that is simply on the surface is that the filler has not enough depth to take the grain pattern and adhesion is often a problem.

There are spray grain products around but we have never found them particularly effective and as they are only a surface effect they would not be very hard wearing particularly on seat areas.

Hope this helps
