leather Lotion differences.

Ive had numerous leather conditioners.

AutoMagics leather lotion

Zymol leather lotion

4* Leather lotion

Pinnacle Leather lotion



Now is it me or is all this the same thing. they all have the same consistency, smell, color etc. After cleaning the leather whether it be coated or not it seems like they all do the same thing. So why make a big deal on brand. Now keep in mind i have not tried connoly, leatherique, Zaino leather conditioner.

So do you guys think the same or have you tried a leather conditioner that was the total opposite from another. Because in my case they all seem to be the same.
 
I agree to a point, Im no Zaino guy, I dont really care for it on my paint but the Zaino Leather conditioner is really different for me from the stuff I used before. This is on myBMW black coated leather. On my GF's grey Honda Leather nothing seems to stand out they all look the same.

Some people here a long time ago reported cracking with Zaino after long term use. I'll use it on my steering wheel right before a show to give it a "pop" because it has more of a gloss to it.



Has anyone here ever tried Mink Oil?
 
Has anyone tried Apple Leather Conditioner? I have used it for years on my wives many purses. It is just like the Coach conditioner at half the price. Yes my wife has many purses. It soaks in and does not leave a glossy surface. I also use it on the leather seats on my Prelude, ES 300, and Odyssey. I hate some products that make the seats slippery. The Apple Conditioner has been used on the 1994 Honda Prelude seats since it was new. The seats still look new ever though it was a daily driver for most of its life. This is just a suggestion as I have only tried a few products on the cars leather seats.

A: A renewable skin and a leather hide are very different from each other and have differing needs. I would stay with purpose made leather upholstery conditioner

A: Itâ€â„¢s an emulsion of lard and petroleum-based silicone oils. Like saddle soap and Lanolin it tends to be greasy. The silicone oils â€Ëœsealâ€â„¢ the leather pores causing the product to â€Ëœsitâ€â„¢ on the surface, making it unsuitable for upholstery seating surfaces. Iâ€â„¢ve never tried using it for the above reasons
 
I tried Meguiars and it was good with a bit more gloss. I did not like the fragrance, however. I switched back to Armour All, as it seemed to me to be better for repeated use. I like the quick wipe leather lotions as it is very convenient, and it helps me to keep my seats conditioned, as unfortunately my car did not come with the best grade of leather (seating surfaces......)



For the deep clean and condition, I like my Zymol's clean-conditioning kit.
 
My car has coated leather and I only use 303. I own Mothers Leather Cleaner and the Leather Conditioner and use this on my leather shoes and jackets. Works well and is very inexpensive and available local.

The Connolly Hide Food, which I believe is discontinued :( is at least different from most leather lotions. Lanolin based, IIRC, never had a problem with it although it can smell "off" if it goes bad. Sorry, but I don't know just what *makes* it go bad, but I wouldn't leave it in a very hot garage. It doesn't smell "like a luggage shop" the way most leather treatments do.



There's a cream sold under the Jaguar brand name (I got mine from Welsh's) that smells *very* different from most leather treatments, sorta like a bar of soap. Pretty strong scent, so if you don't like it, don't use it.



Anybody know of an *unscented* leather treatment? Griot's used to sell one but haven't had it since they came out with their current stuff.
 
Connolly Hyde Food was specifically formulated for Connolly leathers (an uncoated top-grain leather) this English tannery has been producing leather hides since 1878 to automobile manufactures like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Jaguar etc. Ideal for the older Jags



Zymol â€ËœTreatâ€â„¢ leather conditioner is unscented (although to me it has a faint smell of bananas, its what my Father uses on his Jags

I would also suggest you condition the leather underneath the coating or it will dry out. The 303 is a great UVR protective product

Tried this but all the conditioners I used simply sat on top of the coating and created a greasy mess. They would not soak in at all. I seen no evidence at all that the leather was being treated in any way.





I talked to customer service at 303 and was told coated leather doesn't need a leather conditioner. In fact they said a leather conditioner would destroy the vinyl top coat over time and I would be better off using nothing at all if I was planning on using a leather conditioner. They said treat it like you would vinyl.
 
Here's a good write up about lexol but I prefer Z10 because of smell and long lasting, non-greasy, stain repelling, matte finish. Here's some insight to different types of things they put in leather conditions but I don't know what they put in z or leatherique. I do like leatherique too it's just a lot more work. I just used some on my girlfriends couches and it does a nice job but the conditioner is oily. You have to use the cleaner to reduce the oil on the surface. It probably adds more essential oils than any other but I still prefer z10. If you use it 4 times a year maybe an extra time in summer you can see your leather is always protected, so I don't need the extra work of LQ.



Whatever you use, use something. I detailed a lady's BMW and it the car/paint looked great. Unfortunately, she nevered conditioned her leather and it had the cracks throughout her seats. I think the person who got cracking with z10 probably didn't use it enough or started using it when damage already started. Also maybe no matter what you use, leather will eventually break down anyway, but conditioning it will make the leather last longer. Not to mention that there are different tanning procedures and different quality leathers, so I would never blame any conditioner on cracking.

Yeah, I like it but I keep hearing it's been discontinued. No idea how long mine will last, guess I oughta refrigerate it or something.



Oh, and I believe it's "Hide Food" as in "tan one's hide", as opposed to Hyde Food" as in "fodder for misanthropic Mr. Edward" :D Heh heh, have you been reading Stevenson lately? ;) Sorry, just teasin', couldn't resist...as if *I* should ever risk picking on anybody's spelling!

Great! Thanks for that info, I'll get some to try on the S8, which I want to smell like an Audi, not a luggage shop. Might try it on the XJS too, if I can't use the Connolly. We'll see how strong the banana scent is (which actually sounds awfully off-putting to me at the moment, but we'll see).
