Leather emergency - Rock hard stain

I'll confess (or brag?), I avoid driving my clean car if there is a chance of rain... I have an old pick-up that sees nothing but bad weather.

Who else?

I wish I had a "beater". My won't let me because my beaters become too nice to abuse. And then I need yet another car. Here is the last beater I bought:

I don't really have a specific car for rain or bad weather but if it looks bad out then we take my wife's Accord. Sooner or later she is going to figure it out that its because I would rather mess her car up than mine and I'm going to get punched or something. :)

Definitely! I watch the weather channel all of the time just so I know if I should take my older car or not. Why mess up a clean car if you don't have to?

I only have one car, when it's bad on the weekends that means I don't have my car out for another week. Kind of a pain at times because I love to drive it but it's worth not taking it out. Trying to get all the dirt off the car after rain is a major pain, I hate the dirty rims, tires, wheel wells .... everything. Just not worth it if you ask me UNLESS you have to. I am reasonable, I can take the train or get my friends to give me a lift. I know some people are out of the city and NEED to get around.

OK, you guys, when I first read this thread I thought "Uh, that's a little much! Rain car!"

Well, after washing the car and getting the wheels polished & waxed last night, a huge storm rolled in and it's still raining today. My car is safe & sound in the new portable carport we bought it. Paint shining, wheels gleaming!

And now, I'm thinking, "I don't want to take my nice clean car out in that!!"

So I'm stuck at home until my husband gets home with our van or forced to drive the old VW if I really need to go out!

So my answer to this thread is, yeah, I guess I do have a rain car!

SVT01, any true SVT owner has a beater vehicle for snow and rain. I own a 96 Cobra, and of course I have a 93 F150 for the rain. Don't feel ashamed.

i've got a '98 honda civic lx that pulls my daily driver/bad weather duties...

that way the mr2 sits in the garage :)

I have a 93 Accord. Its my snow car, rain car, golf car, and going to Lowe's car.

My 'Garge Queen' always looks her best !

I have a eight month old Mercedes C32 AMG. It's only seen rain twice.

Both of these times were due to the fact that my rain car, a BMW 528, was in the shop for maintenance.

Hey all. Matt here, new to these forums as a member, but long time lurker.

Monday morning, yesterday, my wife got in her car (2003 Volvo S60) to go to work and noticed a spot on the passenger seat. It was a slightly discolored area where the leather was very hard. The shape is like that of a spill. She told me about it last night and I went to see if I could figure it out.

I started by trying to soften it with a warm water and a microfiber towel. it maybe sort of softened the edges, but made no impact on the leather being hard. I tried a small amount of woolite on a clean (new) white applicator pad. No change and the pad was still white. So I don't think it is a spill, though it could be water. Lastly I tried just a basic Maguers leather conditioner, with zero change.

So the spot is hard, like plastic (about the size of an iphone). It has a defined edge. There was nothing sitting on the seat over the weekend, when the car was not driven. The wife now tells me the sunroof was cracked - vent, not open. She also tells me she spilled coffee on the seat about a month ago, but quickly 'cleaned' it up. Since it is on the edge of the seat I can just barely reach the underside of the stain with my finger from under the seat. The foam backing feels exactly the same under the stain as other places.

I am worried about the stiff leather cracking at the seam that runs through the stain. Any thoughts?
