Leather and super embedded dirt removal?

I've got a 2001 Grand Marquis that has never been cleaned. The leather and vinyl is filty. I tried a few different cleaners with varous rags and brushes and have gotten no where. Is there another method that is better?



Would a steamer do the trick? Can I even use steam on leather? If so what is the product of choice?

I have used a steamer ... I was careful and it didn't harm the leather. It did clean some but not the best results I have seen.



For me, I get the best results using a leather brush attached to my PC at speed 4 or so, after few applying a good interior like Megs APC 10:1 and letting soak a minute or so.
 
magic eraser worked very well to clean the leather seats on my accord. Be sure to follow-up with a leather conditioner after using magic eraser.
 
I would try leather masters process.



Start with strong cleaner and a sponge. work it into a lather and clean an area 8x8 wipe off with towel clean again if needed.



once that is done let seats dry for atleast an hour probably two as that looks like a 2-3 step cleaning.



after 2 hours, Use leather masters leather vital on the seats. This is the conditioner that will restore the essential fatty oils that give leather it's suppleness. let it dry between each coat for atleast an hour.



After your 1-2 coats of conditioner have dried, apply leather masters protection cream. this keeps the fatty oils in the leather, and keeps body oils out of the leather.



wait for it to dry for an hour.



Yes it is a long process. but it is difficult replicate the results with any other product IMHO.

I had to read that a couple of times since were talking about cleaning leather :chuckle:
 
yes Lather,



leather masters strong and soft cleaner are lather products. You put it into a sponge and massage it to a lather/foam. That is what you work into the leather.

I'll second Meg's APC 10:1 and follow up with a water wipe down then leather conditioner



This was after going through 3-4 types of leather cleaner/conditioners



For some reason APC just lifts the dirt right off. Apply APC 10:1 to a damp cloth never spray direct to soiled leather. Doesn't work on ink stains.

I wouldn't. Simple Green states this product shouldn't be used on leather. It should say this on the back of the bottle. I even called them directly about 2 months ago and talked to a rep just to be sure. The rep said the same thing.
