Okay, so im fairly new to posting here, I relaly dont post too much I am just a big sponge, I listen to everything and absorb it all. But now I got some questions and hopefully you guys can help some.

I own a PC 776

I have always bought new products when clenaing my car and have tons of 3M, meguirs stuff and other random things. Over this winter I have been building a list of things to get and the question I have is I cant seem to figure out what pads to get.

I havent used the PC all that much but I want to get the best pads I can have. I just am stuck on to which ones are the BEST..

These were my choices

Edge 2000 pads w/ quick connector

or

LC Pads

or

Sonus

or

Excel

I really like the way the edge looks just a little pricy for one, but if those are the best thats the ones Ill buy.

By the way I need them to do my, 04 white Crossfire, 02 Black RSX, 03 White Altima, 04 Black Sentra, 95 RED jetta, 88 RED volvo and other cars too.

Thanks for reading this and replying to which pads you like the best and why

Well...you could be really "Autopian" about it...and try them all! ;)

Just a point about the Edge pads (I haven't used them but I am thinking of trying them), because of the quick connect, they are double-sided, so the price is really in the ballpark of the other pads.

That's quite a collection of cars! Are they all yours, or is that extended family, etc.?

IMHO search around for the best prices on the Sonus, Excel and LC pads and buy the best value; any of these pads will do an excellent job for you.

Remember to factor in coupon codes etc. especially at http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ where coupon codes can make a significant difference in the final price. If you do look at the Autopia store, check to see if they are still clearing the LC pads at reduced prices in their garage sale.

Good luck!

I haven't had a bad experience with any of the pads I've used: Meg's, LC or Excel (Propel). But the best deal out there right now is for the Propel pads:

You can order a good set of pads and backing plate from Excel Detail. Start with the Pad/Plate kit for $29.99:

http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?ref=exceldetail&ct=&pd=97914&pg=14145

Then add something like two green pads (polishing), a yellow pad (med cut), and an orange (light cut/polishing) pad. All seven pads and backing plate will only run about $60, but youâ€â„¢ll have a nice range of pads to use and an extra one of the most used pads if you switch to a different product during a detail. Between the kit and the extra pads you'll have:

1- Yellow Medium Cutting pad

1- Orange (light cut/polish) pad

2- Green polish pads

2- Blue Light Polishing pads

1- Gray finishing pads

1- 5" Backing Plate

You can adjust the number of pads depending of the products you're going to use, but you won't beat $60 for a pad kit like that!

I hear you Eliot .. that $29.99 deal including the backing plate and three pads is just EXCELLENT! I don't know of anyone beating that deal on pads either! :bow

As another new guy I will give you my first experience. I just finnished using some LC constant pressure pads that I got from CMA. They were almost fool proof. I got excellent results using some Menzerna IP with the yellow pad followed by som FP and a white pad. I could not be happier with the results.

I just picked up the LC pads from autopia. They seem to be a great deal. However I was told to center the pad on the backing plate as best I can. This lead me to believe that there were problems with these pads. I have not had a chance to use the pads, and as Eliot can point out, I made the mistake of judging them before I used them. I am sure they will be fine and I have no reason to not recommend them as they seem to be a great product and bang for the buck.

Thanks,

Steve

Wow, thanks guys for the fast replys.

I think you guys defintly have a point and therefore I am going to order all the pads from Excel. I am gonna get the starter kit and buy about 4 or 5 more pads with it.

I am just worried about the quality and why are they so cheap compared to the others such as the EDGE ones, I am mainly after quality more than quanity.

But like you guys were saying a pad is basically a pad, so i guess i will order these and the left over money I expected to spend I can just buy more supplies with it.

This weekend gonna go out and buy that nice 5hp 3 gallon RIGID Vac. I need it, its so small and great.

But if anyone has any objections why I should buy EDGE, or LC over the Excel please post ure opnions.

I cant wait to use it on my 04 crossfire, and 95 jetta, and 88 volvo, not too bad for a 22 year old huh??? I am still saving sfor a porshe, thats what I need. the other cars that I mentioned before are mothers, brothers, and dads,

Patrick's stuff isn't cheap, it's just aggressively priced.

As I mentioned before, due to the nature of the Edge pads, you can use both sides...so you have to cut the Edge price in half to compare it to a single-sided pad (one that has velcro on one side). That's without going into the issue of whether in a single detailing session you could use the two sides of an Edge pad with different products (without it soaking thru and cross-contaminating).

I have been a long time user of LC pads and am biased towards them. I have never tried any other brand of pads except for a few Meguiars ones but quickly went back to my LC's. I have used a great number of their pads both foam and wool without any complaints or defects whatsoever. As long as you cleam them regularly and are careful when changing them, not ripping them off in a careless hurry, they will last for a long time. I also like the VC aspect, it gives the pads a better feel and allows you to work in tighter spaces more efficiently. I buy my foam pads from Scott at SpecialtyMotoring.com being that he is in NY and shipping typically arrives next day.

Good spin there Mike :xyxthumbs

I don't know too much about the edge pads, but since I haven't really heard anything negative, I'd say those who use them are pretty well pleased. PremiumAutoCare had a promo a couple of months back where if you bought "x" number of the edge pads you got the Quick-Connect Adaptor free.

I've got too many of the Velcro pads to switch at this point, but if someone is just starting out it may be worth checking into.

Question for you - what would the Blue Light Polishing pads be used for that you couldn't just use the Green Polishing Pad for?? I bought a bunch of Meg's pads and I plan on using them when I really start using the PC this Spring. They only make ONE polishing pad (W-8006) - isn't that "good enough" for ALL your basic polishing needs? - I hate to use the term "good enough" here....

FerrariVDUB .. Only advice I might give you is not to "put your eggs in one basket' and buy two years worth of pads from one vendor! Buy enough to see if you like them and try a few others, see which pads YOU like best. For example you might find the Megs pads are available locally for you. Same applies to most products you will see discussed on Autopia.

On the Edge pads ..I never tried these mainly because I'm unsure of the concept. Sure they cost around twice as much, offer two sides, but they are still ONE pad. If you damage your Edge pad, say catch it on some trim and tear it up, you have lost BOTH sides. Damage one normal pad and you still have another pad available to use.

I would use the blue pad for a paint cleaner such as AIO on paint in good condition or after I just polished it. I'd say the Meg's 8006 falls between the blue and green pad, but they are close. I still have, use, and like the 8006 pads. Could you use the green pad for AIO, sure, it's just the blue pad adds another option into the mix. If I could only own two pads it would be a polish pad (green Propel, green Sonus DAS, or Meg's 8006) and an orange pad (Propel, Sonus DAS, or LC).

If you already have a bunch of Meg's pads you may want to try an orange Propel (a bit more bite than a polish pad), a yellow Propel (for cutting), and maybe a blue pad just to see how you like it. I'd also get a grey pad if you don't have any Meg's 9006 pads, they come in handy for some LSP's.

Here is a thread that CutNAction did that explains the various Propel pads pretty well:

http://autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49338

As RedondoV6 has mentioned, pads are a large part personal preference. There are a lot of new style LC pads out too such as the VC, CP, 7.5â€Â, etc.. I personally like a flat pad so thatâ€â„¢s why I use a Megâ€â„¢s or Propel. If youâ€â„¢re shopping for pads today there is no shortage of selection from the various vendors (Autopia, TOL, CMA, PAC, Autogeek, etc.).

I think the Edge 2000 pads are a great idea. I'll be ordering some soon. :D I can't wait to compare them vs LC pads.

To say all pads are the same is like saying all wax is the same . Thats like saying Turtle Wax Ultra Gloss and Pinnacle Souveran are the same stuff.

I think all your questions about Edge pads can be better answered by visiting www.edgepads.com. Good luck :xyxthumbs
