Plan on x2 of the 21, then a coat of NXT, can i layer it or is it a waste? Also do i need to wait between layers or not?

According to Mike Phillips (the Meguiars detailing guru) neither #21 or NXT can be layered because both have mild cleaners in them. He suggests two coats of either about 12 hours apart to insure adeqaute coverage. When I use NXT I apply one layer and call it "good". I may come back with a second layer in a couple of weeks.

Right now I'm using Meguiars ColorX (a cleaner/wax) and am getting as good of results as I ever got with NXT. (A very deep wet look on my Black Hemi and a clean crisp look on my wife's white Tacoma) I apply one layer about every 4-6 weeks. I'm trying to recover from my Obsessive Compulsive Detailling Disorder. :D

I agree, Color X by itself, looks great, easy to use also and it cleans better than NXT. I don't know how long it lasts, but if applied a few weeks apart I think it holds up well enough :)

ive got 3x 21 on my car

applied 2 coats back to back, then another coat 12 hours later...

no problems with it..

Well, it is not that simple that 'it is a pro version'. #21 is a very advanced product with a unique appearance. It looks balanced, wonderfully crystal clear and clean with great depth and wetness. One of the products that can be identified easily and is in fact distinguishable. NXT (paste!) is almost as durable for me, but looks definitely different. It looks clear and reflective, but without the characteristic silvery cleanliness of #21. Their cleaners are very mild so two (even three) layers will always look better than one alone. 2hotford (Megs Online mod) uses a #21 ×2/NXT paste ×2 combo and it looks insane. I tried them both ways (#21/NXT vs. NXT/#21), and I must say I really like them!

So, I'd apply 3 thin, gentle layers of #21.

Personally, with any product, I feel that two thin layers to ensure complete coverage is more than adequate. I am not a member of the layering fetish club.

I do have 7 applications of Acrylic Jett on a silver Porsche Carrera but not for any other reason than he has me detail it monthly and it hasn't needed any polishing since the initial detail. I just have replaced the polishing step with another layer of AJ instead. Honestly, it really doesn't look much different with 7 layers than 1.

My Mustang currently has one coat of ColorX (plus one coat of Deep Crystal System #2 Polish on the hood and front bumper) and two coats of NXT. I'll be adding a third coat today.
