Langka and Paint Chip Results

Hello,

So I finally received my touch up (from Paint Scratch) and Langka last Thursday. Goal for this past weekend was to fix the chip in the middle of the hood. The chip was really small but stood out like an eye sore from a distance.

Here's what we started with (picture is a little blurry):

As you can see, I'm standing away from the hood a few feet and it is quite noticable.

Here's a few afters:

All in all, I think the Langka is a quality product but it did take a little practice. I actually did this chip twice because I wasn't happy with the first turnout.

I found if you use the Langka too soon after the Paint Scratch paint, The Langka will pull the paint out of the blemish I was trying to repair. I thought I did a good prep, but in retrospec maybe I didn't. At this point, I have a neutral opinion of Langka with respect to fresh repairs, but after much elbow grease when using Langka on year old paint blobs, it did a good job levelling the excess.

Yeah...I found that I needed to wait about 4-8 hours between layers or it would start pulling too much out of the chip (even when I was holding the fabric taught).

I first tried the "blob" approach as they suggested on the website...but that looked like hell. So, I started over and resorted to multiple levels about every 2 hours. I was too anxious with the Langka and I realized eventhough the paint was dry on top...it was still wet underneath. Learning from that I started over again and waited anywhere between 4-8 hours between mid coats (I had to keep myself busy...otherwise I kept wanting to screw with it :)). I finally waited about 12 hours for the final coat (overnight and after Sunday breakfast) before using Langka again.

As I've inspected this a litte bit more over the past several days...I'm not sure if I'm 100% satisfied with the outcome (being the neurotic perfectionist that I am ;)). I don't think it looks bad, but I think if I went the traditional route of wetsanding to level the ridge...it would look a lot better. As it is now...you can clearly see the repair. I mean...it looks worlds better than any other paint touch up I've done in the past...but...I just think it could look better.

Those with experience wetsanding paint chip repairs...would it blend the repair better? I.e., would it be worth my efforts to apply another couple of layers of touch up paint and try again?

I would like to accomplish a little more of a 'professional' look to the repair. I'm just a little nervous with the whole sanding thing...
