i've always wanted to try the ulti-mit for the reason that lake country deals with foam pads/products and it would be a no-brainer that they would use a good foam composition for the intended purpose (plus the little square notches so dirt/debris have a place to bury itself). but, i never liked the ergonomics of the mitt because it was just too big...

so when the blue grout sponge came out, it was once again a no-brainer to try it out since many of us use both the HD and Lowes GS's. the first thing i noticed is that it came in a sealed plastic bag, just like their pads do and that is a good thing because you don't have to worry about a bunch of dirt/debris in/on it...

once opened, it felt soft and i knew there wouldn't be a problem using it on paint and once it gets wet, it will feel even softer (just like the other GS's). it did a good job of cleaning over all but here is what i do not like about it. it's a little too thick and is hard to maneuver under tighter spots (under door handles, etc) that you wouldn't have a problem with, like with the other grout sponges (HD/Lowes)...

it's 3 inches thick and i feel it would be better if it was 2 inches instead (wouldn't feel as dense and you feel like you have more control over it) like the Lowes GS (everything else is virtually identical in size). time will tell if the little square cut-outs/notches don't tear and rip off with continued use. overall not a bad purchase...

So in your opinion except the size, is it any better that HD, Lowe's GS??

if you're happy with the HD and Lowes GS's, there's really no reason to have to buy this. they ALL work great...

You have to admit though Al that the price alone is reason enough to stay with the Lowes grout sponge.

yeah, you can get 3 Lowes or HD GS's for the price of one of these, and available locally as well...

Wasn't there someone who cut their GS up into the LC GS style? Since you have both why not sacrifice one of the Lowes/HD GS and do a durability test of the 2 Al? :)

one Lowes GS has lasted me months and months (they start to go bad if you end up snagging it on something and ripping it) and they are so cheap ($2) and disposable (think about it, you can spend a $10 and have 5 of them that will last you yeeaarrss), i can just throw it away and use another one...

I got one of those LC blue GS and I have the same experience. At first at least it felt too thick and heavy. But I liked it better and better as the wash went along. But it sure could be a bit thinner. Released the dirt very well, and looked as clean at the end of the wash as when I first started, and the car was pretty dirty. Seems like you can wring the dirt out of it easier than from any mitt or sponge I tried so far.

I'm always intertested in trying new products that may help or work better. But after years of using the ol GS - I can't see the need to try this, so I say thanks Big AL, for saving me some $.
