Kudo's to Shop-Vac

Every so often a company does right and should be rewarded for it so here goes. I bought a small 5 gal/5hp Shop-Vac to use in my part time detail business. Neeless to say, it has seen its fair share of house work too. All in all though, I have maybe 20-30 hours on the motor.

Well today I was cleaning under the fridge and the thing died. I was a bit ticked since I have really only had it about 8 months. I called Shop-Vacs customer service and told them "I think I bought it about 8 months ago, but I am looking for my receipt...."

The woman on the line (from the midwest, not New Dehli) said "No prob" they are warrantied for 4 years. Asked for my name and address and she is sending me out a whole new motor and hose assembly for free!

It sucks to have something break, but, it's nice to know that there are still American companies that give **** about their customers! Right on Shop-Vac!:goodjob :goodjob :goodjob :usa

that is always great to hear. I had a similar thing happen with my flat panel tv in the bedroom and Samsung sent someone right out. Kudos to Shop Vac, glad that I have their machine.

Would it have been a problem if you got someone from New Delhi (not Dehli) TheFiveO?

No it would not have been a problem. Joshtpa hit it on the head. It's not a geographical or cultural slight, it's a language barrier issue. It has been my experience that when dealing with overseas call centers, even the best English language speaker in India is not as easy to understand as someone who was born and raised with English as their primary language. (Although I have had some problems with people based in the deep sputh due to there vocal intonations)

That being said, I am unashamed of the fact that I support businesses based in the USA. In an economic era when nearly all consumer products are imported, it is nice to see that quality products can still be made domestically. Additionally, I appreciate a company that values customer service, in both it's warranties and it's customer service department, over a company that feels they need to save a buck by contracting with the cheapest available labor source.

TheFiveO - Its just weird that this post was first on the list when I opened Autopia this morning. I have a 2.5 gallon Shop-Vac that I use for cleaning cars and its less than a year old. I went to turn it on last week and I got nothing. My mother-in-law teaches at a Technical High School so I had her bring it in to their electrical shop to have them check it out. They said the motor was dead. Can you please either PM me or just post the number you called? That would be great! Thank you!

Qballjr13... I just went to Shop-Vac's website and looked up their customer service number. ..but here you go.

I do have to add one small complaint regarding their service. (Guess there is always a little bad with the good!) When they sent me the replacement motor, that's exactly what I received. Luckily I have a T-25 hex wrench/bit. I would feel sorry for someone that didn't have the right tool needed to accomodate the swap.

TheFiveO, I can understand that and I agree every bit with you that it can be sometimes difficult to understand English speakers from India. I also can understand and appreciate that you support businesses based in USA. I would feel the same way if all the businesses and employment opportunities were going offshore from India.

Although, personally, I'm a firm believer in globalization. I am an Indian, live in the USA, pay taxes to the US government, drive a Korean car, use American products to detail my car and my apartment is filled with a lot of Chinese & American made furniture!!! Very soon, a shop-vac will also be part of my arsenal:)

I'm glad I saw this post. My shop vac went out on me last week and I bought a brand new one. I had my own business in 04-06 so I have every receipt of every tool I had bought in that time period. I dug through them and found the one for the shop vac dated 10-9-05 and called the company up and they are sending me a new one. I think I will just use the replacement for home projects and my new one for vehicles. The new one I bought is 6.5 hp and man does it have some suction.

Thanks a lot for the info, I really appreciate it. Did they ever ask you to verify your reciept? I got mine as a gift so I know I dont have one. Luckily tools are usually the easy part for me so I dont see that being a problem. Thanks again...I love this forum!

Dhilipki...I am glad that you understand that I didn't mean my statement as an attack on anyones culture/heritage/homeland etc. (My grandparents were Polish immigrants). It's just nice to have someone who seemingly "understands" your point of view or frame of reference better. The inverse would probably be true were people from India trying to call the US for tech support. There are just nuances within cultures and languages that are unavoidable and cause conflict.

And yes I agree that without some globalization, the world becomes too cloistered. I think no nation will ever be completely self sufficient and manufacture all of it's economy's needs. Nor do I think that isolaationism promotes better products as much as healthy competition does! After all, my car is from Japan, I prefer firearms made in Germany/Austria...etc etc.

Thank you for the healthy dialogue. (And forgive my misspelling of Delhi! :D

It's always good to hear when a company stands behind their product. Dyson is the same way. When I had one shipped, the main tube (aluminum) was bent (thanks, FedEx!) Called Dyson up, and they had a replacement out the door that day. :woot:

I just got off the phone with Shop-Vac, and even the though the gentleman I delt with sounded like he was in a bad mood, they easily agreed to send me a new motor for my 2.5 gallon/2.5 hp vac. I am just excited. Thanks again for the info in this thread!
