KSG...how thin???

Just did my new 09 ridgeline in kaio & ksg. I used my new pc 7424. I used the white lc pad to apply the kaio & it went on & off like a dream. This is beautiful stuff to work with.

Then came the ksg from hell. I used a lc blue pad 5". I used 2-3 small dime size dots on the pad. I spread it around at #3 speed & then worked it in at #5 doing a 2-3' square panel.

There were some streaks left even after trying to work em out with the pad & using some pressure on speed #5. I had to rub real hard with a microfibre to get it off & even then I did miss some spots.

I worked in a garage & temps were mid 60,s.

Am I better off to apply by hand or.....??

Thanx for any tips guys cus it looks pretty good sans the odd streaks here & there.

Site won,t let me upload pics.

I always apply SG by hand. You need to do it so thin that you can't really see it and it disappears, almost like one of the WOWA sealants, you wipe across, and you see it flash and disappear. If you get it on too thick it's like concrete to get it off--some QD will help.

Yeah, much as I love applying products by machine I just can't get KSG thin enough that way.

"2-3 small dime size dots on the pad" sounds like *WAY* too much to me

ive never been one to do anything but correction by machine.. applying things like waxes and sealants is always done by hand for me.. and i agree with sustec, nice and thin, and it will basically dissapear as it dries... ive ALWAYS needed QD to get it all off though, i dont like using pressure.. my paint is wayy to soft ha.

For KSG, I dilute it slightly with either Sonus Acrylic Glanz or Acrylic Spritz to a sprayable consistency, put some in a sprayer (the finer the spray, the better) then use almost like you'd use a quick detailer. Fold a mf towel into quarters, and give one side a small spritz to "prime" the towel. After that, I spray a small amount onto a panel, wipe it with the "applicator" side of the towel, then immediately flip the towel to a dry side and buff off. You still want to use it sparingly . . . like Setec said, you should see it flash and disappear almost immediately as you apply it.

This technique has worked well for me and a few others that advocate a similar method. As always, YMMV, no guarantees, etc. . . . but for me, it turned KSG from a pain-in-the backside sealant to something that's so simple to apply and remove, you can do it in about 10 or 15 minutes after a wash.

Kinda like what Tort said, I like to dilute my KSG and use it in a sprayer. I'm sure there are better ways, but I dilute with distilled water. The sprayer I use is more of a misting bottle from The Container Store so that it sprays very fine. I use a microfiber towel to spread and wipe off.

A machine for KAIO is fine. Using a machine for KSG is almost asking for trouble. I hope this helps.
