Klasse experts - question of the day

On my wife's (lt. blue) Buick Regal, I used AIO and KSG x2 and I can 'see' the protection. It's hard to describe, but sorta looks like it's sealed in plastic if that makes sense.

On my (frost white) Rendezvous, I used AIO and KSG. In each of the following 2 weeks, folowing a good wash, I've added another (THIN) layer of KSG for KSG x3 (Shooting for multiple layers for winter protection).

But the finish looks no different today than when I had a coat of NXT on there!

Any ideas on this and how many layers is appropriate for a nasty Northeast winter and the coin-op?

I'd say that 2 or 3 coats should be adaquate. On white it is hard to tell the difference in looks between LSPs...as long as the car beads well and is slick then you should be protected.

That's the classic "candy-coated" description of SG. I personally like that look while others do not. Anyways, my family up in CT and VT generally use 4 layers of SG and have not encountered any durability issues - they never go less only because they do not want to try...don't fix what isn't broken is their motto.

Yep, that description sounds like *my* take on KSG. Some paints seem to look better with 3-4 layers but others just look the same :nixweiss

I'd put on some more...I go for six layers and that sees me through Ohio winters just fine. I'd want more than three and there's still plenty of time to add more. I don't get really good durability until around the 4-layer point and that's washing with Griot's Car Wash, which is *very* gentle on KSG.

abbeysdad, any improvement in the looks of SG after more coats on the Regal? IIRC, you said the look lacks pop, did any of that change now?

Thanks guys.

I like the way it looks on the Regal with the 'candy coating', kinda like a satin polyurethane over a wood working project. I was expecting the see a similar result on the Rondy, but it looks very different. There's a sheen alright, but not the candy coating.

I had done the Regal first and wondered if maybe I had applied it thicker there then on the Rondy...after having read all the threads on thin application...

I also used the PC with an MF bonnet for wipe down on the 2nd 2 applications on the Rondy (entire vehicle coated with KSG, then PC/MF bonnet buff).

The Regal has only had KSG x2. I washed well (had clayed a few weeks before and it had NXT on it), applied AIO with the PC, MF wipe off by hand and applied KSG on/off by hand.

There was a slight 'candy coat' the next day. The following weekend I washed and applied another layer of KSG. I think the coating layer appears a bit more pronounced, but it's hard to say.

good god thats a lot of coats . . . . so over here in cali (bay area) for a garaged vehicle will one app of aio and one layer of ksg be enough for three to four months of protection ? im sure the finish will look super - but you guys are talking about a lot of coats and a lot of cure time . . . . which is bad a@# if you have the time - but whats your (anyones) take on just one coat of ksg after aio . .

You're spoiled dude! haha

I live in Central New York. We have winter here. I live about 10-15 miles from a salt mine on a hill on a state road that they take care of really well !!!

Winter, without a heated garage means no new LSP until spring so I'm looking for a durable finish that will survive a harsh winter where salt is spread often.

I get about six weeks tops out of one coat before it quits beading (starts to sheet) and loses a little of the "KSG feel". It's easy enough to just add some more after a wash, even if you only do the panels that take the most abuse. KSGing a few panels isn't as big a chore as doing the whole vehicle and if you're worried about the surface being clean enough you can always do a gentle claying with the Sonus green.

sweet. music to my ears. thx gang. It took myself and FAST05STANG 5 hours to do clay, spotbuff with pinnacle ASR/AFP, orange pad with pinnacle PCL, white pad with AIO following ACCUMULATORS advice, and hand app KSG. we didnt even get a chance to touch the interior, ran out of light. So im leaving now to go throw on another coat of KSG. This time - super super thin.

You aren't likely to see a noticeable difference in appearance on a white vehicle with KSG vs NXT vs anything else. The real difference will be noted after proper polishing, not merely LSP application.
