Kit Wheel Gold wheel cleaner

Eh.

If it's any consolation to anyone, I really don't think you can get a decent wheel cleaner off the shelf. In order to make the product safe to use, the capabilities have to be compromised too much.

Here is the wheel before. Notice, it's not really very dirty.

Here is after one application according to instructions (spray on, wait 15 seconds, hose off)

After a second application; the instructions say a second application might be necessary (if the wheel is really dirty, and this one is not):

Finally I got a wheel brush, dipped it in the wash water and brushed the wheels.

These results really aren't out of line with my experiences with other OTC wheel cleaners. Kit Wheel Gold isn't any WORSE than any others I've used.

There are a few pretty good professional wheel cleaning products out there. I have seen Meguiar's Wheel Brite (from the Detailer line) and it's a true "spray on/hose off" product, and I'm sure that there are others that do the same. I haven't purchased a good consumer grade wheel cleaner yet.

I find, like you, that most OTC wheel cleaners don't work that well. I usually just use a wheel brush with soap and water. On my own wheels I have wheel wax and FMJ both X1 and use a sponge just for the wheels and a MEGs spoke brush with plain water to clean them up.

They stay pretty clean and clean up very easy. Any tar that won't come off with that I use a wet microfiber and rub it a bit and it comes right off.

Nice SSR wheels BTW. :2thumbs:

I wouldn't want to spray any wheel cleaners on those bad boys.

I just bought a jug of Megs Wheel Brightener. I can't wait to try it. Does anyone know if it contains acid? The label is kind of scary "There is a thin line between effective cleaning and dangerous to use products; Wheel Brightener gives users the ultimate in flexibility, cleaning and safety with one product."
