keyed

Hey guys hope all is well. I have a friend at work who had his car keyed last evening and it's pretty bad. It goes below the clear and at many points goes well into the paint to the primer and to the metal. I've included some pics to give a better understanding although you can't truly see the depth of the key marks. I was hoping you could perhaps take a second to look at it and give your opinion as to what this would cost to fix. It goes from the tail light, along the quarter panel and doors all the way to the front fender. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

$1500 give or take. Prices will vary a lot. Generally, the more he pays,

the better his odds. Most make the mistake of going with the lowest

estimate; don't do this. And he should take it to a shop he trusts and

not the one his insurer recommends.

Has anyone ever been able to explain what aspect of human nature compels douchebags to do this kind of stuff. Disgusting.

Good luck with it, it's not going to be cheap.

Someone did a whole neighberhood here in Northern VA, over 40 cars..... My friend got hit. People who do this kind of crap aren't going to amount to anything. I hung out with some pretty rough kids but we all knew better than to mess with people's cars (other than snowballs and waterbaloons at moving vehicles of course).

Ya it's terrible. I like to think that no man would do this to another man's car but it definitely sucks. What's even worse is that my buddy had the car for less than a week and they did this last Thursday and apparently they hit it again Friday night on the same side. I think he either pissed someone off or is parking in front of someones house that doesnt appreciate it.

Blokes that do this should be sent to Helmand Province to walk ahead of troop carriers checking for roadside bombs.

Well, its needs a repaint now, might as well go for gold and setup a motion sensitive camera inside and catch the effer.

That is painful to see. I drive a 335i coupe and cannot imagine how pissed I would be if that happened to me. It will cost alot. The fact that the car has seen paint after production will decrease its value. He might want to research diminished value. Probably not much of a player here since it was not wrecked. Hope they catch the dirtbag!!:rules:

sorry to hear :( ... btw - if i ever catch anyone in the act messing with my car (or family & friends), they will be introduced to this guy, face to face...

yeah, I would throw a guy into the car and "knock some sense into him" if I have the chance to catch someone vandalizing my car!

but its a body shop fix for sure on all 4 panels....fender, two doors and rear portion. will need to be blending onto the hood,as well as the trunk lid

It's actually odd we all assume it was a dude who did this.. Here i see it happening a few time by these over "busy" girls in parking lots with metal on bags/belts/etc.. where they seem to key the cars..

Also depending on the area we seem to have a few oversealous, jellous girls kicking around destroying cars..

This is not to say it wasn't a dude, but rather got to look at it from both genders.

Some dude years ago keyed my lincoln towncar. His only problem there was a camera and when I saw who did it. Just like BIGAL3 said I used a ball bat it worked. It was a Louisville slugger though.

It doesn't look TOO deep by the pictures, they may be able to be wetsanded and polished to look pretty good. It's pretty tough to tell by the pictures though.

So what was the story behind him keying your car? Personal or just random?

If he knows who did it, he should try and sue, or at least call the police. If it was random and the police had multiple reports, they might be able to get somewhere with it (assuming you don't live in a big city with lots of crime).
