Key'd Doors

I found this little number on the passenger side today when cleaning the salt off.

It extends from the rear door, across the entire front door and a part of the front quarter panel. I doubt it is a sideswipe since the mirror is untouched. The shallow parts I managed to polish out. The others...well I think they went through the clear coat since I can catch it with my nail.

How much does it usually cost to have a panel reshot by a decent shop? The insurance will cover vandalism to a reasonable cost after a deductible.

You might want to see if there is a professional detailer near Borkx3. I suspect that could be made to disappear without much difficulty.

I didn't try it yet. I was thinking that I'd lose a lot of clear coat. Zaino AIO and a Megs Soft Buff pad cleaned up the smaller one.

How much clear needs to be removed to hide this? Is it just rounding off the edges so it doesn't catch light or is this more than that?

Damn vandals...

It honestly doesn't look that bad from the pic, though. It doesn't look like it penetrates the clear coat. Find a reputable detailer in your area that can wet sand it for you. You're much better off getting someone to wet sand it than trying to buff it out yourself.

(You're dating yourself with your Avatar and Location... I thought *I* was the only one around here old enough to remember the Muppet series... the Swedish cheff was *hilarious*).

if you are ready to have it painted what do you have to loose?

Having a pro wet sand it might help him from having to do a repaint... a manual job with compound on scratches that deep might very well have him needing a re-spray.
