Ok guys my 2001 IS300, my baby got keyed a day ago. TH emark is about 12in long and i can feel it with the nail and the PC helped but didnt really do anything. I read the Davidb scratch and chip repair and am thinking about doing that tommorrow. Will that technique work on a longer scratch like mine???? Help me out here guys i wana go get the touch up supllies and get it fixed tommorrow.

I had the same thing happen to my car except that the scratch ran from the bumper over the hood all along the side and into the rear tail lamp. At the time i was not techincally skilled enough to do the work myself. the scratch at certain points were fairly deep. I took it to a body shop that reffered me to a guy that could wet sand it out. Let me tell you, that guy got this thing out. And you couldn't even tell anything happened. So, if you are comfortable with doing the sanding i say go for it. If you'd rather have a pro do it, then find a reputable shop, and maybe that will work out for you.

Did your guy use touch up paint and the whole work or did he jsut wet sand it out?? i think i will tackle it myself, let me know what you all think.

Don't give up and start sanding right away. Recently, I removed two scratches about 7" long from the door of my van. One of them could be felt with a fingernail. Based on what I have read, I figured I was SOL, but if the panel had to be painted, what could I hurt? My PC, a Meguiar's polishing pad, some Meguiar's Scratch-X, followed with some Meguiar's #9 and a polishing pad, and neither scratch is visible now.

Removed or just filled in, I have no idea. Really don't care. It has been over two weeks since I did it, and they are still not visible.

I spent quite a bit of time with the Scratch-X and the PC speed at 5. Probably worked it for 5-10 minutes at a time, wiped it off and did it again. At least 4 times were necessary before I felt like it was enough. I hit the area with #9 a couple of times, applied my AIO, and finished it with UPP. I really have to look to find one 5/8" flaw that remains, and that has to have the right light at the right angle. An hour or so of work might surprise you.
