Just switched from Zaino to Megs

After an 8 year run with the full Zaino line, I have decided to make the switch to Meguiars. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong the Zaino. It does fine at giving me a long lasting protection and nice shine, I just felt that I was missing something. I have realized it was a 2 part issue I was having. First, yes it shined real nice, but it just looked too fake to me. Strange, but maybe it's a mental thing. I wouldn't say plastic, but just not what I was in love with. Second it made me lazy. It did a great job of protecting for so long that I would neglect doing anything to the cars for months at a time. I decided that I wanted to fix both of these problems, and I wanted to find an OTC solution, so Megs it is. I got Ultimate Compound, some 105 and 205, #7, and NXT 2.0. Can't wait to give it a shot next weekend and see how it looks on my Seal Grey color.

Welcome to Autopia.

I too made the switch back to Megs from Zaino about a year ago. I felt it shined like no other and had great durability but it just didn't look right to me for some reason. I don't think it's a mental thing you were experiencing. I too had the same impression after awhile - on my white Subaru it just looked "fake" or "plastic". I would tell myself it was just me, this went on for 3 years until I ran into someone with a white Subaru like mine that was polished and sealed with M21 - WOW! The difference was night and day, his was very glossy and had a lot of depth in the reflections while mine looked very white and shiny it had that "fake plasticy" look. I immedialtely sold my Zaino and went back to Megs.

I'm not bashing Zaino in any way, it's a great product, I just didn't care for the way it looked on my car. I have seen Zaino on a black cars and other dark colored cars and it looked amazing.

The M105/M205 combo is just plain awesome. Using it with a G110 I was able to remove all but the deepest defects from my paint.

Thanks, glad to know its not just me. My plan right now is to fill in and sand down my rock chips on the hood and bumper. Then I'll do the 105/205 combo. Then I'm trying to decide if its worth it to use #7 before I top with NXT 2.0. I don't mind the work, but if it doesn't really do anything then there's no point. Any opinions? Its a 2003 Seal Grey Boxster S.

I look to Zaino for LSP's. Z5, ZCS, Z16, Z8, Z10.

He doesn't make a product intened to compete with M105.

I'm the opposite of you two, I've had it with Carnaubas. Too many choices, too many varying prices, too much overlap and duplication

Yes, Zaino does have a unique look. I actually prefer it on my Whie car.

You might be able to do without the #7, the M205 finishes down really nice with a lot of gloss. Best way is to do a 50/50 panel and see if you notice any added benefit with the #7. I know I didn't see any on my white car.

I don't think he was looking for something to compete with Zaino, he just didn't care for the look of Zaino on his car. As a former Zaino user I completely agree with his assessment on how it looks.

I personally don't like it at all on White, but think it's looks awesome on Black or dark colored paint. I think if I ever buy a black car (highly unlikely), I will use Zaino on it.

Guess the LSP:

On some colors Z2pro can have a bit of an artificial look. On some colors Z5pro looks better. As for NXT I always felt that the original version was more artificial looking than Zaino. Maybe the newest version looks better.

I think some people still think it has an artificial look even though that went away when they came out with the new "Pro" version. I was one of the few that liked that old look.

I have compared the new stuff to a few nuba's such as PS, Swissvax Concorso and Vintage and to be honest with you I have a hard time telling the difference. I have no complaint at all with Zaino. My only complaint with some of the high end waxes is they tend to sweat when it gets hot and leaves the car hazy I currently use both and enjoy trying different products be it nuba's or sealants and will continue to do so but suspect Zaino will always be my go to product unless somebody comes out with something fantastic but I haven't found it yet.

You do realize that NXT is also a synthetic although you wouldn't know it by its lack of durability.

I too maybe making a switch from Zaino but to Optimum. I am still on the fence but the ease of use with Optimum is starting to push me over.

Not saying that Zaino is difficult but Optimum is just that much easier. I also like having my correction products coming from the same company as my LSP. Durability is important to me so only time will tell if I make a complete switch.

I've been messing around with RMG and Collinite this winter on my dd black Acura and it's been beading like crazy but, it gets and stays dirty with the quickness.........

I love the warmer look but, it's not for my DD......

This car stays outside and a drive in the rain won't do much at all compared to when I was using Z5 and Z8 last summer.........

The auto-cleaning factor after a good rain was there with Zaino, the wax topper is a different deal here in Houston, Texas.......

Tree pollen and regional "sweat" on cars from humidity at night play hell on LSP's.......

As soon as it warms up a little more, I'm going to use some 205 and clean it up for Z5pro, ZCS and Z8 again this summer........:xyxthumbs

I have my doubts that Optimum compounds/polishes are going to be better than Megs Ultimate Compound, 105 or 205. It's really hard to stick completely with one product line when so many companies have a couple stellar products.

I've yet to try the new Meg's stuff I actually would really like to just have a lot of product sitting that I need to use first. Anybody want to trade some Meg's 105 & 205 for some Menzerna stuff?

One thing I like about the optimum polishes it the lack of dusting, how do the new Meg's twins compare as far as level of dusting and needed cleanup?

I can't speak for M105/205 yet, but SwirlX has virtually no dusting. Not sure about Ultimate Compound, but I'd wager to say little if any as well.
