Just ordered the Metabo....

No more messing around for me. I've done two full details yesterday and today and just haven't been 100% pleased w/ the results and the amount of time needed.

I plan on getting the Edge 2K wave pads, but not 100% sure. I already have the 4" and 6" pads, so might as well get the 8".

I have a full detail (Lexus SUV) Sunday, I hope to get everything by then. I plan on using the Optimum line w/ the rotary.

Had you been doing all your details up to this point with a PC?

^^ I believe he has, since I've seen a few of his other posts.

You will love rotary work... if I get some funds over the summer, I will definitely order the Metabo to see how it compares to the Makita...

best of luck

I'm really wishing I woulda spent the extra cash and gone for the Metabo. The Porter Cable 7428 rotary is just too darn heavy (even for a big strong guy like me) : P

I've heard that the Metabo is light, but does anyone have an actual weight number for it? The 7428 weighs a hefty 8.5 pounds.

The makita and hitachi are both under 7lbs I think... or around 7

My makita feels really light... maybe you should try that

I got my metabo last week, been using the hitachi for about a year. Don't mess around just get the metabo. It is so nice and smooth. I have the edge adapter, black and green wool. This setup is excellent!

Five point something from the top of my head. Metabo's Web site has exact figure.

Zoran is right, here's the specs from the American site, for the PE12-175:

Torque 89 in-lbs

For supporting plates up to max. 7 "

No-load speed 700 - 2200 /min

Rated input power 1200 W

Output power 680 W

Rated load speed 2200 /min

Spindle thread 5/8" - 11 UNC

Weight (without mains cable) 5.3 lbs

The Canadian site lists the weight as 2.2 kg, which is 4.8 lbs so I don't know where the other .5 lb comes into the picture for the American listing.

I'm leaning towards Edge pads, since that's what I have for the PC. I like the concept of them, and I don't want to start messing around w/ a backing plate (simply because i've never used one nor need too)

So far, yes, I have been using only the PC. I'm just tried of wasting my time and using so much energy to get results.

Have you had any issues with the edge system? I was thinking of not necessarily switching from LC/backing plate to edge, but just trying the system out and seeing which I like best for now... but I heard too many stories of the connectors falling apart after only a few uses...

I've never had an issue w/ the adapter or the glue falling apart on the pads. I have though ran into a problem w/ the foam before. It seems the center area where the cut out is likes to get eaten up a little. I've never had another set of pads to compare w/, but let's just say the foam is delicate.

All i use on my makitta is the edge2K system, couldnt imagine using the traditional BP and hook and loop pads.

I dont know anyone who has had adapters fall apart on the rotary, only the PC. Im pretty sure i know why it fails on the PC and not the rotary.

As far as picking a rotary my only real requirement was it had to go below 1000rpm's becuase some paints wont finish out perfectly at 1000rpms. Weight was also a factor. Even somthing at 5 lbs after 8+ hours of buffing will feel like 1000lbs. The most cost effective rotary within my requirements was the Makitta 9227C. I love it and the edge2k system and cannot see myself using anything else.

For polishes and my rotary i only use the optimum line especially OP. Becuase of its seeminlgy infinite working time and no dusting it makes buffing with the rotary a cake walk.

I know Edge made a modification to the PC adapters and IIRC they offered a swap program for anyone with the old ones.

I gotta get the Edge 2k system for my rotary, trying to center pads on the BP simply sucks.

You do awesome correction via PC bro. What is your go to product for swirl removal?

I only use Pinnacle XMT line and Optimum line. I don't have OHC because I wasn't sure how it would break down via PC, but I'm going to pick some up for sure now w/ the rotary.

I really love XMT 3 for it does good correction and finishes LSP ready most of the time. I LOVE OP for a finishing polish.
