I just got my PC today, and now just wondering the pad that comes with it (the white foam pad) can it be used to polish or and what is it used for? I know about the orange pad already, but they forgot to ship the velcro backing plate that attaches to it:wall . So sorry for the newb question... And can someone tell me what the different color pads do?

do not use that pad on your car it is not made for paint

Seriously?

The foam doesn't feel much different from my SFX sonus pads. I actually used it to polish the face of my wheels with PO106FF.

I would think it was made for using on paint, but I think many have tried it and say to keep it away from paint. :nixweiss I use it for other stuff around the house, or polishing the headlights.

thanks everyone for the replies.. Another question, what size pads is everyone using, or ideal size, to detail a whole car? I already know that the 3.5 and 4" are good for spot buffs, but what about the other bigger sizes? And can anyone tell me what the color of the pads represent, or link me to a thread reguarding the colors? I searched and found bogus threads.. thanks

6" pads for the PC are good.

Colors honestly depends on manufacturer. Here's a few:

Dedication to Detail - The Edge Buffing Pads

I have used Edge pads and have had great success and recommend them. I have not used Lake Country, but several others have. Pretty much comes down to what you are comfortable with...

Im really thinking about getting one of these guys I have a rotary tho do you think I should?

Here is the kit im interested in.....

kit includes Porter Cable 7424 buffer, 2-6.5" orange "light cutting/polishing" foam pads, 1 blue "final finishing" foam pad, 2 microfiber polishing bonnets for safe, effective residue removal, the Lake Country flexible backing plate and 2 ounce samples of our TC-3 Polish/Sealant xP, TC-6 Car Wash and TC-5 Detail Spray.

I dont even know where I should start lol I have a black 01 ss camaro with some light scratches I got most them out with my foam pad on my rotary with some 3m swirl remover. I want it show quality though and any help would be great thanks guys.

The easiest way to start is to pick a certain brand of pads and get used to using the PC with those from there. Depending on how many products you'll be using for polishing and LSP will tell you how many pads you'll need. For those that are just starting, you'll most likely only need 1 pad of each and be set for now.
