Just Got Keyed

My brand new Toyota Tundra double cab just got keyed today. I took a cell phone away from one of my students and once he learned that the office wouldnt let him get it back until Mom picked it up he blamed me calling a Fcking Fggot.

Now my silver truck with 500 miles on it is keyed on both driver's side doors. They look deep; they look awful...what should be my next step regarding my truck? I dont have a polisher "yet" and I dont want to ruin anything using Scratch-X too much.

Should I talk to my insurance? Should I talk to some pros? Should I get that Porter Cable Ive been wanting?

Help:scared:

Find proof that the kid did it, and talk to his mother lol. :bat

If that doesn't pan out, talk with insurance. Sorry to hear about that, some kids don't have any respect, and just need to be locked up.

You will need paint work if the scratch is deep. Nothing a PC or a Rotary can do for you.

I would sugest you contact your insurance. You pay for it why not use it.

Ugh, sorry to hear that man. That must be terrible, especially since you know who it MIGHT be. These things can be fixed though.

Are there any cameras in the lot?

Im working my administration on that issue. My concern is how to hide some of the scratches. I can feel them with my fingernail, but it looks like it is just the clear coat. My paint is silver. Does silver paint look white when keyed? Please dont say yes:nono

I might place painters tape along both sides of the scratch and see if Scratch X will do anything other then tiring me out.

STOP... Your in the wrong place!!! Dont worry about fixing the paint with anything this forum can offer!! It wont happen!

I would talk to the mother, then insurance...Its a brand new truck....besides, i doubt insurance would go up since its not your fault... When my mom's car was keyed, insurance covered it, and it didn't effect her at all.

First file a police report. Then speak with the kid's mother and you might see that the police pay them a visit as well.

You are probably looking at $500 - $1,000 dollars to repair.

Any scratch you can feel with your fingernail can't be buffed out.

yeah, get the protercable and a wool pad, load it with 3m rubbing compound and buff that kids face on speed 6. :xyxthumbs oh well, you would probably loose your job . . . j/k heheh. i cant stand things like that, im sorry to hear of yoru misfortune . . .

if you can catch your nail on the key mark, like you have probably determined already, you need new paint. insurance should cover that if you have full coverage, but the last time that happened to me my rates went up . . . best of luck.

im curious to know how you plan to deal with the kid that is responsable . . .

A rotary will be able to knock the edges off the key marks considerably and make them less noticeable, but yes for a full repair, you will need it repainted. But, you have a silver truck, so they'd blend in even more and it might not look that bad.

I'm not that old, but if my father ever found out I said that to a teacher, he'd punch me square in the face, and I'd have to take it.

edit: regarding the kid you suspect, I would scare the ever living shtt out of him by telling him the state police are coming by to investigate, mention something about a lie detector test, expulsion, court, etc...even though none of it is true, he WILL confess. People tend to crumble like a cookie when you mention that kind of stuff, its human nature, especially younger people. He'll have skid marks all the way up his sagging pants. Then when he does confess, kick him in the nuts - it'll be your word against a punk kid's who keyed your car.

I wouldn't touch the truck until the issue is resolved. ScratchX is on the way mild side, I doubt you could do much damage with it, but if you don't have much experience removing this type of stuff, its better left to a pro.

Kids are pretty easy to get to confess. Problem is he probably went home and talked to his mommy. If they are on the same page, it will be WAY harder to get him to confess, especially if his mommy told him what it is going to cost them. Hopefully there is someone at the school, who is well versed at getting confessions out of today's fine youth. Let them do their magic.

Ummm, I would not recommend threatening the kid with things that are not true. Recently here in SoCal, one of the school officials threatened students that if anyone ditched school to participate in the Mexican rally, they could face jail time. One of the students somehow got scared enough by this that he committed suicide. I believe the parents are trying to sue now. I think you're better off doing what you do well, which is teach, and let the proper authorities deal with this issue. It's probably not the first time something like this has happened at your campus.

Just ask the stupid kid. If he says "No" then he lied, if he says "Yes" then there you go. Honestly I would see if there are cameras and let the office know to let the parents know what happened when the phone gets picked up.

First try to find proof the kid did it. That includes a reward for someone with information of the person who did it or who saw it. Report it to the police. Have them investigate. Call the mother and talk to her. Then as a last resort turn it into your insurance company. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX THIS ON YOUR OWN. WAIT UNTIL THE SITUATION IS FULLY RESOLVED. Then get it repainted.

How old is this kid? I suggest you take a drive down to the "shady" part of town and pay a dope fiend 20 bucks to beat the crap out of this kid, maybe his mother too if she sides with her son :grinno: KIDDING! A rotary with a wool pad and some rubbing compound would make it a lot less visible, however I would deal with police and insurance before going that route.
