Just bought an Air Wand

Did you get it for the "real" $100 price? I understand Air Wand direct offers a 10% off discount to Autopians.

I live in Portland, so I drove and picked one up. $99.95 for me. I also took a walk through their warehouse and bought some of their individually wrapped microfiber towels for 99 cents a piece. They feel pretty nice.

I think it would be better to retrofit a shop vac. All you would have to buy is some more hose, a hose coupler, and maybe a hose adapter. ( readily available at Lowes/Home Depot) If you retrofitted a vac, you wouldn't have to carry around the weight of a leaf blower.

Wouldn't a vacumn cleaner with a blower work the same? I guess the fact that it's portable and the chick is using it makes it better?

I didn't get a chance to use this thing last night. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to do a writeup on my experience.

Couldn't I use my Metro Vac N Blow?

I'm quite fond of that thing. I will try it on Saturday when it's supposed to reach 60.

I betcha you could "home brew" a DIY wand attachment....hmmm...I think I have a new project.

I would not use a vac as a blower because it may be possible to blow out onto the cars surface some grime and gunk.

This is why a dedicated leaf blower is best. Its only job is to blow the water off your cars surface. It doesn't do double duty on the weekend mulching leaves:nono

Also, the attraction of the Airwand is that it is a flexiable hose with an end nozzle that is flattened out, thus spreading out the forced air to cover a larger area.

This can be accomplished with a normal nozzle heated up and then molded or worked out into a wider nozzle. Saving you money.....although you may go through a few blower nozzles till you get it right:D

Seems to me that the nozzle of the Air Wand and the presumably light and compact motor (with shoulder strap) might be sufficiently different so as to be a lot more user-friendly.

I have leaf blowers, shop vacs (big and shoulder-strap types), a compressor- all kinds of ways to use air to dry the vehicle. But I don't consider them user-friendly and thus I'm still considering an Air Wand; it just seems like it might be a nicer setup.
