Joyriide Detailed: Montego Blue E90 335i
1.5 years old with 10,000 miles.
Owner of this car had come to me a few months ago trying to score a detail to remove some light scratches and hologramming in the paint. Never heard from him again until last week. Upon receipt of the car, I was quick to notice that other than the caked wheels, most of the exterior paint was in decent shape in terms of bonded contaminants and grime. After a thorough cleaning,
I put the car under lights and went to town. The heat was unbearable. It was cooler with the garage closed and a fan blowing than it was with the garage door open. I was expecting my polishes to act up, but ironically, they behaved better than I ever expected them to under these conditions. I was throwing the polisher upside down, one handed, 2000rpms, and they would not act up. I switched my pads maybe 3 times the most and dusting still stayed to a minimum. Surprising, considering that I normally have to wear a mask while using the Menzerna twins to prevent inhalation of all the dust in the air. The finish on this car came out BEAUTIFUL. Montego Blue is such an eye popping color that when done right, looks like a jewel. I decided to go with FK1 1000p since I was not up for Zaino this time (last few times Zaino acted up do to the humidity and would smear all over the place). Engine was not detailed, and Interior only received a vac and wipe.

I started the detail that morning weighing 168.5lbs, and finished the detail at 164.5lbs. Mind you all that was with about a gallon of water and food breaks every 3 hours. I had drips of sweat all around my work space.

*I have been feeling dehydrated a lot lately while detailing, even though I consume plenty of carbs and liquids throughout the job. Any recommendations? I run everyday, and it seems that my dehydration caught up with my running and started feeling knee pains. It pops everytime I squat allt he way down to do lower panels. I plan on doubling my glucosamine, but would a knee brace while detailing and running help? I fear that they may cause my knee to conform or heal in a wrong way which will cause future painl. I don't really wanna see a orthopedic.

One hell of a detail Joy, awesome color and finish on the BMW :bow. You might need to take it easy on working in the heat because it will hit you hard. Lots of fluids and maybe you see a orthopedic doctor about your knee. It could be nothing but don't take a chance. Hope the knee feels better.

Very nice work.

The trick to staying hydrated is to be completely hydrated before you start a task or exercise. If you're hydrated beforehand, it'll be a lot easier to stay hydrated. Once you're dehydrated, it takes quite a bit to get back to where you're feeling good. I've spent a good amount of time in the Mid-East during the summer, almost always 145 plus degrees, and this technique helped a lot.

Damn nice work, that blue just pops in the sun.
As audiboy said make sure you go into whatever your doin well hydrated. Drink water before you do a detail or go for a run you'll notice a difference. You can also try something called cytomax. I use it in my water when I go moutain biking. Its kinda like gatoraid but with out all the junk.

Awesome job Joy. I know what you mean with the heat. I did a detail last week and had sweat dripping all over the car when I was polishing. Very annoying...

You may want to get your blood sugar level checked. It sounds like you may be suffering from the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

Don't delay.

I'm speaking from experience here.

Showing off more than the detail here.:rofl That oughta attract some more girls on here though.:bigups

BTW You might be moving the buffer a little too fast in that picture.

I have really tortured myself over the years being a mobile detailer. Some of the places I've had to work have been brutal and I would drink soda to quench my thirst. I realize now just how bad that was for me. Working on a black asphalt parking lot with my tent as my only shade (which was not near enough). Whatever money I made on those jobs I'm sure I will be paying doctors in the future to correct the damage I did to my skin and over all health.

Seems to be some good advice about being well hydrated before you start and checking into your blood sugar levels. I think that would be wise.:bigups

Joy, I'm not sure how often you use your little shop stool but try to stay on it as often as possible. It has been in the upper 90's- 100 with the heat index up to 110 in my shop up here in NJ several days already. I find that staying on that stool really helps my joints. Also I make sure I drink my water consistently through the day.Good call on upping the glucosamine it really helps. When do you go to the gym that could really play a factor? Since its been hot I go every other day in the morning. It's not what I want to do but it's that or pain. Good luck!
