Detailer's Journal - Superbowl Sunday 2010
I was hired by a L.A. County Lexus Dealer to drive almost 600 miles round trip to detail a brand new Matador Red Mica Lexus IS-F this last weekend. Customer had taken delivery of the vehicle and was promised a perfect finish, when he arrived home the vehicle had extensive fine hairline scratches. They had promised the customer if he was not satisfied with the finish he could procure a detailer from anywhere in California.....I got the call from this gentleman at 9:55pm on 1/31/10...After over 40 email's between the owner and the dealership, the dealer agreed to my estimate....They arranged to pay for my drive time (down time), lodging and the complete paint correction.......... So I loaded up my reserve water tank that fits in the back of the Denali and utilizing a 12v washdown pump and a hose I was able to take R/O water with me and my supplies. So we packed up and drove thru the country to tackle this job. My wife and I performed this job on Superbowl Sunday, it's gotta be the passion:cooleek:
Here are some photos of the trip some scenic and surreal and some of the job to restore the shine on this gorgeous "Candy" IS-F.
A beautiful shot of Pyramid Lake coming up over the Grapvine on the drive
Snow and cold weather on the horizon and into the valley
Acres and Acres of fruit trees like these nectarine groves and wine grapes, also plums, cherries, prunes, raisins, almonds, english walnuts, pistachios, and lots of livestock
Our destination 3 hours from home for this job
Prep for paint correction begins on this 09 Lexus IS-F
Part of the dealers prep 'TOGW" The other guys wax left on the emblems
Paint inspection begins
Taped and ready
First pass with rotary with a M8006 pad and M205
Extensive scratches being jeweled/polished out the rear spoiler with a LC 4" yellow pad and M105, these were deep
Lights, camera, heater (fricken cold) polishing action
Light up and corrected
Second pass using D/A and LC 4" white pad and M205
My wife removing the LSP
The after shots, wet and shiny "Candy Apple" style
This is what the customer had to say via email when we arrived home.
"Hello Dave, it was a pleasure meeting you and Patricia. Your customer service and attention to detail are absolutely outstanding, again your workmanship is second to none"...
It's wonderful to be in this business and have customers like this!
Thank you for viewing, until the next road trip!
