Johnny-J5's black bug-eye WRX

Johnny had contacted me over a month ago to get some swirls removed from his black WRX. He had always kept it very clean, but had a very hard time getting the swirls removed. The interior of this car was very clean and exterior was too, my main obstacles were removing the swirls and finishing clean on this extremely soft, black, 80,000 mile paint. For the interior, I went with:

- Folex to clean carpets, vinyl, plastic, and rubber

- Zaino Z16 to protect vinyl, plastic, and rubber

- Stoner's IG on glass

- Zaino Z-AIO on clear plastic

The exterior took about 6 hours. Moderate to heavy swirling coupled with a very soft paint left an easy correction, but tough "perfection". Polishing clean required a few attempts in some areas. Overall, for Subaru paint, I was pleased with the finished product as was Johnny. I equipped him with some tips to try to keep her as marr free as possible. My finals were:

- Poorboy's S+W to clean

- Zaino Z18 Clay + Poorboy's S+W for lube

- Zaino Z-PC via rotary and LC Orange Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm

- Menzerna PO-85RD and LC Black Finishing Pad @ 1300 rpm (x 2-3 in many areas)

- Zaino Z-PC and #0000 Steel Wool for the Borla

- Zaino Z6 to remove any dust

- CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells

- Zaino Z16 on tires (x 2)

- Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd and a spritz of Z8) on paint, glass, wheels

- Zaino Z8 to spice things up

Can ya guess that my camera died ;)?

very nice work, good to see some WRX's on this site! (I own greymotorsports.com)

Luckily I've always owned white subarus, the paint is terrible on these cars.

Hey Sean, when you do the carpets with folex, do you just spray it on and scrub or what is your procedure? I think you had a write up somewhere on here on the forum but I couldn't find it. Great job on the car, I thought you took a break from detailing!

Bryan: I'll see if Johnny chimes in. He may have taken a few.

puravida: Terrible? Yes. Most owners I speak with agree to that as well.

Sam: Spray on generously, and massage in with your (gloved) hand and let soak for 10 minutes. Follow up with a steam cleaner wrapped with a MF towel and go to town. It works pretty well for all but deep stains (I use OxyClean then).
