Hey guys I am up against a tough challenge this weekend. I have a black F150 with an 8 in lift kit on it so i wont be able to fit it in my garage. I just read a paint burning thread so i wanted to clear this plan of attack with autopians before i screw something up!

I am working with a PC and i have the following planned out...there are many swirls on this truck

SSR2.5 with an orange low profile LC pad

Meguiar's 80 on white/green pad

What do you guys think about this...how effective would SSR2.5 be with a green pad on a PC? Surely i cant do much damage to the paint with an orange pad and SSR2.5 can I??? All help is appreciated thanks!

It would be tough to damage the paint if you're working with a PC. I'd go with the orange, but you can always start with a white or green and move up as needed.

You can't do much damage with a PC and any pad at all really. You'll be fine. A green pad and SSR2.5 should be alright to use. Ford paint is not rock hard so you should have a fine time with it.

If you burn the paint with the PC you'd have to have some sort of turbo charged model PC. ;)

I agree but don't forget 4" pads on a PC are a different story

they cut alot faster and can cause damage!

That would have to be some insanely soft paint. I have used a 4" yellow pad with SIP on my UDM and I couldn't burn paint.

Thanks guys..i know the guy that burned the paint was using a flex...but i figure that the 5.5 orange pads will cut quicker and therefore i wasnt quite sure...i have heard the 4" pads can do damage and since i am using a pretty aggressive polish i want to make sure i am in the clear...thanks so much!

would you call mid 90's GM black paint soft?

orange propel pad, SSR 2.5, and my PC did this on my 97 Z28

also try a search as I am not the first to do this with 4" pads on a PC

if 4" pads on your UDM will not burn the paint there is something wrong with it

or you are just using you head :rofl

I have to say that untill I tried the 5.5" orange low profile pad - I didn't see how anybody could possibly burn or damage paint with a PC. But, I got some 91 and went to work on some bad scratches on a 2002 Lexus and was amazed - that the scratches came out and that the paint got so hot. So yes, Virginia, there is the potential to F...Up with a PC.

well i have some pretty major correcting to do...how about on speed 5 with the 5.5" pad...will that bring the risk down and still render good results? i am just needing something that is above all safe, yet effective enough to get 90% of the swirls and scratches out...any recommendations is very welcome!

Go with speed 6. I rarely use anything less than 6 with polishes.

on the PC i never use it with anything but speed 6...anythign else and its just jiggling around...

I would just start with the orange and 2.5...then 80 and orange, then 80 and white, then wax...80 is a pretty mild polish so i doubt it will do much with a white pad besides refine the paint a little, but not enough to remove light swirls and marring IMO...I have switched to other polishes and rarely use 80 anymore...
