Job at Detail Shop

Well. Before I started my detailing business, I put out an application for Jims Detail Shop. Which is out big local area detailing shop. They supposidly do all their things by hand, which is what i like.



Today they called me asking if i was still interested and set up an interview for thursday.



I was thinking about making a little portfolio of cars I have detailed, some befores and afters, etc. Which might help. I have a clean driving record, can drive a stick, and have expeirience. Those were their main concerns.



I dont know if i will get the job, but im hoping I can. Then i will have a constant source of income, with my own business on the side.



Any tips on what i can say, show or do to help me with the job? Its my first real job application. (i did one last year at school as part of a career project, i dont think it applies.) Anyway. Any tips will be well appriciated. Thanks

Do not mention the side business!! Eagerness will get you far! Just let him know everything you know but try not to be a know-it-all. Good luck.
 
yea. I have been told my my mom repeatedly not to mention the side business. If i make a portfolio, i would say they are all family, or friends of the family cars i have detailed. Which is kinda true.



I know that The detail shop does not want to hear about a side business because they dont want the competition, and they might worry about me "stealing" customers. LOL.. Im the 16year old kid who ruined Jims Detail by stealing all his customers. LoL.



I am kind of intimidated though because they have regular customers with 100,000 cars. I have driven by numerous times to see the Vettes, Vipers, Ferarris, Humvees. ETC. Those are the cars i definately dont want to start on. Since i dont know their equipment very well.. From what i have heard they use pressure washers on the body. :scared
 
A pressure washer for washing is fine.



I wouldn't worry too much about working on cars like that. They probably won't say, "Okay, First day. Well, there is a F50 in that bay over there. Get to work."



Plus, if you mess up they'll be the ones paying for the damages... and you'll probably be fired... Nothing to worry about ;)

I doubt that you will have to touch one of those $100k machines until you have proven yourself 1000+ times over on dealer cars or beaters. Don't worry about the pressure washer ruining the paint. That is one of those things that everyone has heard of, but nobody has seen. Keep at a safe distance and everything will be OK.

LOL. i can see myself on my next job. On the application. Reason for leaving last job. Swirling the hood of a F50. Then trying to explain to the interviewer why this is a big deal.

It would probably more be like, "Fired for doing burnouts with customer's F50 in parking lot"

Me? Do such a horrible thing to a customers car? Do u think i have such disrespect for a car of such power. Me? Take advantage of having all those mighty horses at my command? ?? Do u think i would stoop to such a low?



Yea.. your probably right.;)
